3.5. Not nearly as fluffy as the description makes it sound, with a fair amount of intrigue, and some good character development.

This book was a slow starter for me, but I'm so glad I stuck with it. I wasn't blown away by the writing at times, but I loved the plot and that the story was told 4 times from 4 different characters, with each retelling adding more details. I'm going to do the audiobook with the kids and I will read the sequel. This felt like Willy Wonka and Mysterious Benedict Society squished together to form a new story. Recommended.

The Candymakers follows four kids (Logan, Daisy, Miles, and Philip) who are competing in a contest to create a new candy. The first four sections from the book are each told from a different kid’s perspective and cover the first two days of the contest, ending at the same point. The next section of the book returns to Logan, and the narrative continues for the remainder of the events in the story. It is a great way for the reader to put together a story with additional information from each perspective. There is a mystery going on, and the kids do work together as the plot thickens.

Such a sweet book!

omg this book was so cute and clever! i didn't expect to love it since it is a middle grade read, but it is a well-written, light read that kept me flipping pages. it definitely served its purpose well.

it's whimsy and full of twists & turns. the 4 pov's retelling the same story was so unique - i never read a book like that before, but i think it was very well done because each pov surprised me with something unique. it's so interesting to see what each character hides from the others and how everything is interconnected in the end. the characters were cute, dynamic, and learned a lot throughout the novel. i loved all of them. such an innocent and engaging story.

if i had read this when i was younger, this would have been a definite 5 star read, but now, i had to consistently suspend my disbelief and remind myself it was written for younger readers, which is why i couldn't fully 100% enjoy it. some of the supporting characters acted in such un-adultlike ways and the reality of the kid's lives (especially daisy & philip) was a little unbelievable.

overall, it's a good-hearted, light, fun, and cheerful read! recommend to all looking for something to bring them back to their younger days. you won’t walk away with some newfound understanding of life or anything deep, but it’s fun & entertaining for sure!

very boring i cant finish it

this book was great! it had so many different points of views and one point of view always ended at the suspending part so it kept you reading and wanting more. it has so many twists and turns and myseties and things you'll never suspect! great book! i would recomend it to anyone that likes myserties and wendy mass is one of my favorite authors!
