The Candymakers

4.2 AVERAGE

A fun and spectacular read. I read this in fourth or fifth or fifth grade and have read it again and again ever since, and I will continue to even if it's considered a middle grade book. This book made me want to eat all the chocolate and other candy it described so well and I loved the characters.

One of my all time favorite

This candy factory is impossible in a much more realistic fashion than Willy Wonka's. Instead of an army of Oompa Loompas we've got one lady in a room by herself pulling taffy. I just have to wonder how much candy the factory can possibly be making due to its limited resources and labor.

middle school experience

Loved this book! My life revolves around sweets, and this was just the book to quench my thirst for a great book. Exquisite detail, surprises around every corner. Definitely recommend this book!

I totally agree with Ty. AWESOME! I couldn't put it down

So, I'm guessing the pitch for this book was [b:Charlie and the Chocolate Factory|6310|Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Charlie Bucket, #1)|Roald Dahl|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1309211401s/6310.jpg|2765786] meets [b:The Westing Game|902|The Westing Game|Ellen Raskin|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1356850909s/902.jpg|869832] meets Rashomon. There are four kids in a candy factory for a candy-making competition. As the same story is told from each kid's perspective, the readers learns a bit more about what is really going on.

None of the reveals were particularly surprising to me, but I think for a kid in the age group this is meant for, they would be. I also think a kid who was able to figure out what was going on would think it was cool rather than predictable.

This book was a ton of fun. I don't read a lot of middle grade, but I really enjoyed this, especially all the descriptions of candy.

I loved this book! It gives you information bit by bit, surprising you at every turn if a page!!! This is a good book about friendship and life! I would recommend it for children! :)
