I read this with my kid and they enjoyed most of it. For me, I don't care much for mysteries to begin with. The chapters have good cliff hangers that encourage "just one more chapter!" moments. My kid felt proud they figured some things out before the book revealed it, and there was a lot of fantasizing about working in a candy factory and what kind of things we would invent.

This a really fun book for younger readers, and it will make you hungry. It's horribly unrealistic, but that's part of the fun!

This book was so SWEET ;)
I loved it. It was so fun and enjoyable and suspenseful and inspiring.
There were lots of twists and mysteries that were slowly revealed throughout it and it was genius.
The characters were all super developed and unique and interesting.

Thoughts while reading:
"Soooo cute."
"Omg this is like the third time I've almost cried."

I actually wrote down and saved several quotes from this book. It was unexpectedly beautiful.

When I’m a normal sane human I read devastating books about tortured souls for that extra kick™️. When I’m emotionally turbulent and mentally unstable I read books about middle grade kids solving world problems and more importantly, making friends along the way.
This book was equal parts fun, heartwarming and entertaining. It starts off from Logan’s perspective which I really loved because he’s such a sweet and mature kid. I definitely felt a strong connection to him. And then switching to the other kids perspectives, my God were there some twists. It just added so much depth. The four main characters feel very fleshed out. Each one is facing a different struggle that’s easy to empathise with.
My biggest complaint was the “villain”. Their motive was extremely weak and their whole part in the story, felt forced and almost confusing. Especially for this being a children’s book, I actually think something simpler would’ve made a little more sense.
All things considered, I think whether you’re an adult or a mini-sized human being, you’ll definitely have a lot fun reading this.

Amaazing

this was one of the best books I've ever read it had so many unexpected twists its unbelievable I didn't see so many things coming Wendy Mass really did a job well done

I really enjoyed this book. I read it about two years ago and re read it a little while ago, and while it was a little juvenile I still really liked it.

Re-read for LIS 412. Wendy mass was one of my favorite middle grade authors when I was younger and I think her books really hold up!! This one is delightful and complex and surprising. I had as much fun reading it now as I did at age 11 ❤️

I think any children's book that weighs in at over 450 pages should contain a fairly epic storyline, this book does not.

Each section of The Candymakers relates the same events of a two day period told by all 4 main characters. The first third of the book drags along and it is only as we learn more of the story that the pace really picks up. Granted, the last 150 pages of this book are pretty fantastic, but it didn't need to be such a trial to get to that point. The kids loved it, I think heavy ratio of candy mentions per page helped with that as well.
