Love this series. Every now and then one of them isn't as interesting as the rest, thankfully Lanthe and Thronos did not disappoint.

Well worth the wait. You would think that after 14 or 15 novels in a series it might get old but I am here to tell you that this series just keeps getting better and better.
This is a love conquers all story. Thronos recognizes Lanthe as his mate when they are both children. Even though their families are each on opposite sides of a war they become secret best friends until the fateful day when his parents kill hers and her sister kills his father. Feeling betrayed Lanthe uses her sorcery to cause grievous lifelong harm to Thanos. He has been searching for her ever since. He isn’t sure if it is for vengeance or to claim her.
Lanthe has been on the run for 500 years but it appears her time has run out when she escapes one prison only to be capture by the boy now full grown who broke her heart. They are forced to run and fight together. Can they get past their differences to survive? Can time heal a broken heart?
Kresley Cole never fails to enthrall us and bring us fully into the fantasy world of her Immortals After Dark.

While I struggled with an earlier book (Dreams of a Dark Warrior), I was still engaged with it. This book, which I was actually looking forward to... I just couldn't stand.

Melanthe and Thronos were childhood friends in warring groups (Sorceri and Vrekeners) until ~betrayal~. Then they were enemies who happened to be mates. Melanthe spent her life running from him until she was caught. Dun dun dun.

There was just... so much bleakness in this book. Melanthe has been with others sexually and she's sex shamed so much. Vrekeners are holier than thou police angels. I just didn't click with them or the story and I barely made it through.

Maybe I need to revisit later and change my mind - but ugh.

LOVED Thronos!!! He's probably my 2nd favorite male lead after Sebastian. Probably because they're sort of similar. Lanthe is so different from her sister, but she definitely comes into her own in this book.

I really liked how they actually worked through their feelings before hitting the sheets.

Just a really good story. Nix is awesome as usual, and I still like how the books are all in "real-time", where you get the same time frame from the different couple's perspective. Now the long wait for the next book...

Oof, not my favorite IAD - I think because I found all the purity culture business hard to stomach. I did appreciate where Thronos and Lanthe ended up, but the journey was hard going for me. He was hard for me to relate to, and I just couldn’t get into their struggles to connect. It was nice to see a bit of Cadeon and Rydstrom at the end, plus see more about Nyx’s plans and learn where Fury is…

Yes, Thronos is a total jerk at the start, but I really enjoyed his and Lanthe's journey through the realms and eventual union. This was one of my favorites in this series!
