Again, it's been over 10 years since I read this book, but I remember liking it, there was a lot to the story.

Couldn’t stomach it right after reading Erasure… thanks Percy
Mesmerizing. Stunning. Poignant. Word for word, I loved The Color Purple through and through. It took me just a few pages to get used to Celie's language and the style of the book, written as letters to God and later to her sister Nettie. It is one of the most beautiful books I've ever read - it was like a hand reached out from inside the Kindle and tugged at my heart strings. The characters are unforgettable: Celie, Sofia, Nettie, Shug Avery, Squeak, Mr. _____, Harpo and the story telling is funny, heart-breaking, full of truth and fortitude and faith and love. So Much Love. The power of love against all odds.
The writing is exquisite. Walker is beyond accomplished in story-telling. It reminded me a little of "The Help" which I also enjoyed so much.
When Oprah said this was the most life-changing book she'd ever read, I had to read it. And now I'm thinking I'm gonna join that book club of hers because she has exquisite taste. I'm in between Pillars of the Earth --- NOT exciting at all - and several others books but it took me just a few days to get through this amazing masterpiece. So glad Alice Walker won the Pulitzer Prize for it.
Read this book, you won't regret it. It will enrich your life and add a little purple to enrich your mind with The Color Purple.

I feel bad giving just 3 stars...
The story is very good and powerful but for such a small book it took me so long to read, and that is why I can't really give more.
The writing style is just so jarring.
