Throttle Me

She mused and went on and on about how attractive he was and how long has it been since. I'm good.

The story of bad boy MC City and good girl math teacher Suzy. I must admit the MC genre is something I am trying to get into but frequently frustrates me so I had low expectations with this book.

I was swayed because it had a few things I like in it. Tattoos, piercings and a nerdy heroine seduced by a badboy.

But, even with all that I’m throwing in the towel and marking it a DNF at 50%.

Why?

I don’t know. It just felt like a cardboard cutout of a book. I didn’t believe in anybody. Suzy was a contradiction. On the one hand she didn’t swear, but then she swore like a sailor with her BFF and affectionately called her ‘whore’. It just didn’t ring true to me so it made this banter feel forced.

The only angst in the book is Suzy’s idea of her clean cut future. A future which was just so lame and vanilla I felt detached from her need for it. It just made me find her boring. And it didn’t really correlate with her best friends and their background. So everything just felt false.

Suzy’s idea of pushing City away is to totally ghost him and go on another date. I found this weak and mean. You have to give them some kind of closure. It made me not like Suzy.

I hate women who wear super high heels then complain about not being able to walk in them. Don’t wear the ruddy shoes in the first place! Ack. She wasn’t for me and City just sounded like a cliche.

I’m out.

The premise of the book was pretty straight forward, City rescues Suzy after her car breaks down and they have immediate chemistry. Suzy feels like she can't be with City for some reason, but can't get over him. There was a lot of smut, which I appreciated, and I liked that City was a good guy who kept rescuing Suzy. The plot could have been a bit more fleshed out and Suzy had a couple times where she bugged me, too immature and helpless. The narration was so-so, the guy did an Italian-American, kind of Jersey accent and I didn't love it. The side characters were interesting, particularly City's family and I will check out the next book.

This story didn't work for me.

The filler plot just missed the mark.

Suzy is a good girl with some dirty fantasies.

City is a tattoo artist who is just up for a good time.

They meet in the middle of nowhere and after a one night stand City wants more. Suzy thinks he's too flighty and doesn't meet her checklist.

I got irritated with Suzy. I didn't get her. She appeared really stuck up and I thought City could do better.

But meh. I found this pretty two dimensional, and boring.

The sex was steamy enough, but Suzy ruined this book for me.

(read as part of the Tasted and Tempted collection)
I could have sworn I read a later book in the series that this book kicks off, but remembered nothing about these characters from that book, so that was confusing. Apparently there are two series about siblings running a tattoo shop, and the other one was also in this same collection.
