As long as you can suspend your disbelief about our MC's staying even though they were in a path of a hurricane (which is dumb, and IRL no one should do this) this is a fun and cute romance.
Really interesting read from Meg Cabot although not her best work. The town of Little Bridge was as quirky and cute as Meg promised and you feel like you want to up and move there. The side characters were all immensely likable and promise to provide a great setting to return back to for future books in the series. The main romance in this first book was cute but there was one aspect of the novel that really truly got under my skin. Given our current climate surrounding guns and the associated issues I was really put off by how guns were handled and used in this book. It wasn't enough to make me put the book down and dnf it but it did leave a bad taste in my mouth.

I enjoyed this book. It's quick paced and fun (although Im not sure who's realistic re:hurricane preparedness). However it requires content warnings for animal abuse and sexual assault.
Also, some parts are very buzzwordy - like at one point the author states how a character is being mansplained to about a topic she knows nothing about... Which is not mansplaining then?

This is such a sweet series!
Bree was an awesome lead character. You really related to her and understood why she came to Little Bridge to get away.
I would have liked to hear Drew’s POV. I didn’t feel much of the chemistry between them. I enjoyed them together, but I feel like all the sudden they were into each other and we didn’t get all the build up.
I also feel like the people from Bree’s past didn’t apologize enough. I feel like there should have been more groveling from particularly the mom.
Overall, this was a sweet series and you don’t have to read it in order!

I love Meg Cabot and I am always up for a new book from her, but I found the start of the Little Bridge Island series slightly disappointing. First, the good: I liked Bree, and I grew to like Drew as well. Their interactions were pretty cute, although sometimes perhaps a little too juvenile. (In regard to Drew: I love that all his dogs were named Bob!) I enjoyed getting to know some of the background characters, and assume we'll see more of them in later books.
The bad: I felt like the buildup and aftermath of the hurricane could have been handled better? The warnings were so dire (and as a Floridian, I do not understand deciding not to evacuate when you live on the flipping Keys!! That is how you die!), but then the storm turned out to be no big deal. I think I read that Cabot based this book off her experiences during Irma & Maria, which were no joke: the Keys were without power for days and days. But in the story, Drew's aunt and uncle had a generator running and it seemed like the power company showed up within a few days.
The subplot with Bree and Drew taking care of evacuees' pets similarly felt like it fell a little flat. I expected it to play more of a role into her deciding to stay on Little Bridge Island and pursue her art, but the two conflicts felt completely disconnected.
Bree's mother was made out to be a Nancy Grace-esque character, but ultimately that seemed not essential to her character? She could have just as easily been a wealthy New York lawyer, so I'm not sure why she needed to be a (presumably) right-wing legal radio host. Bree's conflict with her mother, as well as her ex and her assaulter, were dealt with a little too pat for my liking. I guess I expected there to be more to come, but the book wrapped up pretty quickly.

It was a cute quick read. I did struggle a bit with it being believable in the sense that I get that people stay during hurricanes. But it felt a little uncomfortable that the MC stayed to prove a point to her ex and her mother. I don’t enjoy when the MCs makes silly decisions that put themselves in very harmful situations. I did like how Bree and Drew wanted to save all of the animals. I would have done the same. I do enjoy when books include pets. It was overall a nice romcom happy book.

A really cute story. Nothing mind blowing but it was cute and relaxing and that's with all of Meg Cabot books I have read now. The perfect books to relax to.
