It's been at least a decade since I last read this book, and it's a testament to the character development and world building that I remember so many plot points and characters.
Eragon's training sequences, which could be boring on their own, are fun and introduce new elements to the magic system and cultural practices. These scenes are balanced by Roran's struggles against the empire. Instead of paling in comparison, Roran's story line propels the narrative forward. It offers exciting combat scenes and allows for a regular human to stand up to forces greater than himself. In a chosen one narrative, it is an interesting choice to elevate another character to the same level. As if to say, yes, the heroes matter, but so does anyone who loves their home and family and is willing to do anything to protect them.

This book delves further into the lore of the Inheritance Cycle, giving life to the culture of elves, dwarves, and dragons in such depth unlike I’ve read before. You’ll be swathed in tradition and be mesmerized by a world so wonderful you’ll want to fight on dragonback for it too. With a great twist, Eldest keeps you rapt from cover to cover in a sequel worthy of following the first book.

The plot continues to thicken and twist. There are some parts that are hard to read and others so enthralling you don’t notice the pages going by. I’m excited to see how the story continues. I am happy to say that this book holds up to many rereads. Even when you know the plot, the story stands up
