I still love the world created by Singh but this book was a little painful to read. All the "alpha males" are pretty much the same...especially the cats and she uses some pretty "unique" words over and over and over. I am more aware of the mediocre writing as this series goes on. This book was light on plot and world building as well and heavy just on the romance between these two which was not a good thing for me.

I really had fun with this one. I see in reviews that some people were bothered by Talin, but I had no trouble with her. I really enjoyed this book. The look into Clay's past was fabulous - including watching he and Talin overcome their horrible shared past - and it made for a great addition to the series. It got so sweet as they came together that I got a bit teary.

This book also forwarded the overall series plot quite a bit. I can't wait to see where things go with Kaleb, Nikita and Anthony on the Psy-Council. The Forgotten will also add a great element to the ongoing story. And it is cool to see that DarkRiver/SnowDancers are starting to try and connect the varying packs - under their hierarchy, for sure, but they need to have open lines of communication (as the last book demonstrated) or they have no chance against the Psy in the coming war. It would be much too easy to turn the packs against each other if they have no ties with each other.

The only slightly sour note for me was the fact that I could see the solution to Talin's problem from a mile away... I mean, practically on page 1. What I have really enjoyed about this series is that the characters are in no way stupid - they put the pieces together as fast as the reader does, and it keeps the plot moving along (and generally also keeps the melodrama to a minimum). This one element broke that precedent (
SpoilerI mean, really, if it wasn't obvious before then, Talin was dreaming about the Web of Stars just before she stopped breathing
) - perhaps it was too much foreshadowing of the solution - and I hope that was just a one-time aberration.

That said, bring on Dorian! Woo!

Enjoying this series so far, Nalini Singh is very talented but for me this is my least favourite couple so far. Going to take a break from this author at the moment, but I will be reading the rest of this wonderful series very soon.

Wow. Im really enjoying this series. Clay and Tally were heartbreaking, but beautiful in how they overcame the obstacles that they had.

Mostly just adding to my review of the previous book in this series - the world-building and ongoing reveal of the larger Psy-Changling-Human world is interesting and organic. The actual storytelling has an old school soap opera/action movie quality that I find oddly soothing (despite the deep focus on trauma in this entry in particular).
