My husband read this awhile back and told me I needed to read it. Finally yesterday I decided to start it and I got 50% into the book in one sitting and finished the rest today. This story is hard to read at times. I LOVED how strong Tess was. She was badass! I don’t want to talk too much about this story because it’s better left for you to go in blind. With that being said definitely check the trigger warnings if you need them. It’s dark, twisted but so so good. I don’t think I’ll be continuing with the series. You can definitely just stop here and be totally fine with it.
I wanted to love this story and I wanted to hate this story. Overall the writing was a little choppy, and hearing repetitively how Tess thought of herself was a bit over done. Yet, somehow I could put it down and not finish it.
I had this on my TBR list for awhile and now that three books are out decided to go for it. This was really good. Tess kind of bugged me a bit at the beginning but I could see what the author was trying to convey. I loved that there was so much more to Q than appeared. What an amazingly complex hero. Tess' journey was incredible and I loved the ending. This was a really well written enjoyable book. Yes, there are definitely dark elements to the book but the relationship between Q and Tess did not ever feel ugly.
This was a very raunchy read, VERY raunchy indeed. It is the story of Tess who is vacationing in Mexico with her boyfriend, Brax, when she is kidnapped by a Mexican gang whose business seems to be human trafficking. Trafficking young women in particular, in order to be sex slaves. I must confess that I thought this was maybe going to be a little different then it was. There were some scenes that made me quite uncomfortable.
For example, without giving away too much detail, there is a lot of rape discussion and an actual rape in which the woman in question then has consensual(?) sex with someone else straight after to 'erase' the memory of the rape. I found it problematic.
That aside though, the rest of this book is a portrayal of a BDSM dynamic and it's heavy on the sadism and masochism. When I say heavy, I'm talking about cutting, whipping until bleeding etc. Pretty hardcore stuff that would make a lot of people balk. Despite all of its problems, the story was really entertaining and it was a really fast read.
I'm not sure if I could, in good conscience, recommend this book though as I feel like it handled a lot of issues (like rape), quite poorly. If you have a strong stomach and want an extreme read than go for it. I found the writing quality to be quite high and the plot is well constructed.

Yeah, this book was beyond f*cked up. It was deep and sensual and I loved every second of it. Well, that's a lie. The first two chapters were a pain in the ass. I hated Brax. I really did. God forbid the day that I ever date a man like that. I understood Tess' needs and wants in those first two chapters, and if I could get that, then so should Brax. As much as I didn't like him, I understood his importance to the book. He was the contrast to Q, who was the complete opposite of the book. For once, this is a book that I couldn't foreshadow. It irked me, but it was only because it is so rare that it happens, and yet still, Pepper Winters did that. She surprised the shit out of me with that ending. When coming to the characters, I admired the fight that Tess had, but there was just times during the novel where I just wanted to slap her in the face myself. Q, he was one bundle of a French hot mess. He was a bundle of conflicting emotions. I still don't know how to describe him, other than the fact that he is a very scarred and conflicted man. The end of the book was on point. I loved that the reader was able to get insight into Q's world. I don't want to spoil the book, but there was a lot of emotions. Time to read the next book!

Holy hell this book was amazing! Tess has a pretty normal life, normal boyfriend. They go on vacation and she gets kidnapped while at a little restaurant, she is a fighter, was the whole book. I love how no matter how rough it got while being beat, or when she was raped she stayed strong. In the end I was rooting for her and Q to be together. Can't wait to read the next book!
