Excellent non-sparkly vampire apocalypse! Well written, taut novel. Not quite a stand-alone, but the story drew me in.

trope filled movie adventure
this isn't a master piece, it's fun, it's full of the movie tropes you expect. I'll read the next one (as I have it already) let's see if it picks up.

Really good book. Read like a movie.
medium-paced

Reads like a movie, full of action scenes and cringey dialog.

Bastante mediano. Entré con mucha expectativa a este libro. No me quedaron ganas de seguirle con la trilogía.

I saw the first season of the TV series and couldnt watch the rest of the show. So I thought let me read the books instead and started of with THE STRAIN. Unfortunately, the novel was a bit let down and didnt even attempt to explore something new. The vampire plot is rehashed story of most vampire movies in a bit gory and graphic detail.

The characters are actually very interesting and if written properly could end up being very memorable ones. But there were too many plot and character cliches everywhere. The estranged father , the mysterious old man, the evil billionaire, the thug hispanic guy etc etc.

A sci-fi twist on the classic vampire story, which I had been meaning to read for ages. It's an enjoyable page turning thriller but not complex. There was clearly some effort to give the characters some depth but they ended up following the typical monster hunter tropes.
It's not a deep read but a fun read.
