'The Strain Book 1' collects volume 1 and 2 of the graphic novel series. It's a good story, although the character names are all a little strange, and the art is good. I'm not familiar with the book or television series, but I believe this is the same plot and I liked it.
When a Boeing 777 lands at JFK and is dark on the runway, CDC specialist Ephraim Goodweather (see what I mean about the strange names?) is called in. The plane is dark and all shades are drawn except one. When he boards the plane, all the passengers are dead except for three, but none have any particular trauma. As he unravels this mystery, he finds he is not alone. He soon begins assembling a group of people to fight this new menace as it reveals itself, including a holocaust survivor named Professor Abraham Setrakian, a pest control specialist named Vasiliy Fet and his partner Dr. Nora Martinez. There are also different people discovering things along the way, and I think most of them will all team up against this threat.
I found it to be an engaging story. I do want to read the books at some point and they are on my reading list, so I don't know how faithful the adaptation is. I also have the advantage of not picturing what the characters should look like, and then being disappointed by the artist renditions. The art is good. The covers are terrifying. The parasites are just gross and I found this to be a good way to create a truly terrifying version of the creature. Good stuff.

Really enjoyed the story. The writing was not as good as Crichton or King but a nice addition to the genre.
Fast paced action book accompanied by awesome Huddleston's artwork. Few episodes of the TV show made me want to check this out --- glad that I did.
Horror is not something I like to read 😅 It was gifted by a friend so I tried it but I got too scared.

When a 777 suddenly stops dead on the tarmac at JFK and no one can contact anyone on board, suspicions arise. The lights are off and all the shades are pulled down, so they call in the CDC, who enter the plane to discover all of the passengers dead, sitting in their seats as if asleep. So begins a chain of events that spread a vampiric virus around New York city.
Like so many other books told through multiple perspectives, I often had trouble getting through. Especially when a new, seemingly unconnected character was introduced (they always connected eventually, but it sometimes seemed random and slightly annoying). The vampires of this world are like no vampires before (they're more like the zombies from Resident Evil: Afterlife, with those tentacle mouths coming from their throats). They're slightly more akin to Invasion of the Bodysnatchers than anything else. But once I made it past about the half-way point I couldn't put it down. I suppose it's a slightly more believable take on vampirism. I'm definitely intrigued enough to read the next book.

A ton of clunky writing, characters who make constant stupid mistakes, characters who blunder into the story for a few pages only to be killed, an evil character called Eldritch (oh please, really?), the expected happeningjust as expected...
yet I STILL want to know what the hell happens next.
Damn, this story sucked me in as bad as that gruesome appendage that... shh.
I feel guilty for liking this messy book. The thing is this book is an homage to early horror films. It works on the nerves and the emotions in shameless concert. Cliches abound but there's also a wicked little story crawling free.
Above all, at the end, the mess works. I'm all in for the second part. What the hell, my brain needs a good horror vacation.
In fact, I've giving this messy fun four stars. Geesh, maybe I've been bitten — by silly, bloody fun!

El libro tardó bastante en engancharme y justo cuando se puso interesante se terminó.
