Sexy vampires and cats!

I liked this but I’m very confused. Someone come help me.

Hmm. I feel similarly about this as I did about into the woods. Emily Carroll is a better illustrator and graphic designer than she is a story teller. The art was good, great at times with the bloody jump scares, and the text was incorporated in creative ways. As far as the story goes I liked the concept of opening doors to reveal a mini fairy tale and the sapphic horror blend of lust and murder. Not much about the mc was made clear but she doesn’t remember much either except the draw to the castle a la the vampire’s trap so I guess that makes sense. I thought something about the werewolf would be different (or is she the cat?) but we know there have been others before her so maybe the cycle just continues. Was a good quick plane read for the vibes but I’ll keep hoping for the banger I think this author is capable of.

While the story had merit there was something that just left me disappointed.

Emily Carroll is such a gifted artist. It isn't my favorite of theirs but I'll always in for a treat with their work.

Not as great as I was hoping it to be. Very sensual and at some parts I feel like the story tried to divert into a different storyline.

Gorgeous, dark, and genuinely creepy - I loved this book! The color palette throughout is so good - after the well-used red, the white part was excellent. The writing is wonderful as well, both the fairy tale components and the main story.

Jeg elsker tegningerne, og jeg elsker den fuldstændig sindssyge historie.
