I see the horror aspect of the story. Because the full story isn't revealed till the end and the main character's motive is not clear, it was confusing up until that last part. The art is interesting though. Love the contrast of the red on black and white as highlights.

This graphic novel is beautiful and creepy and I definitely need to give it another read. The art is absolutely brilliant, I love what Emily Carroll does with colors here and how the narration style contributes to the creepiness of the story. It feels none linear and ominous and confusing, so that you share the MC's state of feeling dread and confusion. Beautiful visual storytelling!

E.M. Carroll takes up space in my brain like no other. Their comics are to be considered, mulled over - they don't give their secrets away easily. Oozing with metaphor and symbolism, I Arrived at the Castle is poetic gothic horror to be puzzled over like a nightmare half remembered.
