Jeffrey Deaver has been my favourite author for close to 2 decades, but this book just didn't hit like they normally do. I generally really enjoy the Kathryn Dance books, but something about this one just felt off. I'm not sure if it was her general distant feeling from her boyfriend, or just her in general, but I wasn't a massive fan.
The plot itself was amazing - I cannot imagine the absolute fear you would feel experiencing one of the horrific events - built solely on fear and herd mentality. As always, the plot seems to wrap up a bit too neatly and easily, but it was still fun to read along.
I did not enjoy the ending - I did not enjoy how her relationship was ended and her instantly moving on. It just really tainted her as a character for me.

I found the fourth title in the Kathryn Dance series a little slow at first, but again, Deaver does a great job of weaving several plot lines into one and leaving you in the dark. The Lincoln Rhyme series is still my favourite, but this one will do for a summer read.

Well, this certainly took me forever to read. It bored me so badly, I listened to three audiobooks in between.
This appears to be the last Katherine Dance book, and I'm glad, because I don't think I have the stomach for one more. It's a shame, since this series started with such promise. Police procedural novels are a hard sell for me, but her being a kinesics expert was such a fun twist, and such a clever spin on the same old, same old.
Our main story line is interesting enough, a person who thrives on wreaking havoc in public spaces. Think someone who goes around screaming 'FIRE' in a crowded movie theater. Each scenario is planned out, and done fairly ingeniously. It's insidious, and creepy as hell.
But then we have our B plot, where Katherine Dance is suspended from duty on a gang related case. She's bumped down to civil, which is how she ends up on the above mentioned case.
Both cases are going on at the same time, along with a C plot involving her son, a D plot involving her daughter, and an E plot revolving around her ever present love life.
There's a lot going on, and honestly, it dilutes three very good story lines. You can't focus on any one story line for very long, and there's an AH HA! moment at the end that was completely lost on me because we'd been dealing with so many people I had no clue what they were talking about.
Frustrating.

I love Kathryn and Michael! Really great story, another Deaver twist!
