I could go as high as 3.5 stars. Decent, but nothing special. (By the next day, I couldn't even remember exactly how the book ended.) Not quite as predictable as his Lincoln Rhymes books have become.
This is another book in Kathryn Dance series and it is really great.
Agent Dance works on a new case, in fact on two new cases. And they are both fascinating. A lot happens also in her personal life.
The only thing that I didn't like is that Dance has only few opportunities to use her body language reading skills. I wish she could do this more often. Still, I really enjoyed the story and I'm waiting for another book in this series.

Honestly it wasn’t that bad, probably aggressively fine but if you’re going to have your female protagonist spouting this horseshit nonsense you get what you deserve.
The girl had also learned of feminism in school and, returning home after social studies, had declared, to Dance’s delight, that she wasn’t a feminist. She was an “equalist.”
Overall this book was everything you want in a thriller! There were numerous mysteries happening throughout the novel and the author did a good job weaving them throughout. There were many unexpected twists and turns. The book kept you at the edge of your seat throughout! I took away a star because the main character just wasn’t my favorite. It was like she could do no wrong! The author went into great detail about her parenting and how she’s this perfect mother that has all these guys wanting her. They even went into this one rant where the daughter, who’s ten, declared she wasn’t a feminist but an equalist. Made me want to gag! I was kinda routing for her to fail at some point and at one point you really thought she did but turns out she didn’t. She was so “perfect” that it was unbelievable and you couldn’t help but hate her a little bit. I was able to see past these annoyances though and focus on the mysteries! Semi-spoiler: I’ve read two other books by Jeffery Deaver and they were written after this novel. Many aspects, like normal occurrences turning deadly and video game violence, were used in the other books. This book read very similarly to the book “The Steel Kiss” (literally the same plot outline with different characters and slightly different crimes). This one read much better than “The Steel Kiss” So if you’re going to choice one I suggest this one! One other negative aspect of this book is the very end. It was extremely cheesy and cliche. Had nothing to do with the crimes though!
Another solid Kathryn Dance novel...
Deaver kept me guessing throughout all the storylines this time. Can't wait to read the next one.

Apart from the very annoying paragraphs about music (country and the awful soundtrack to Frozen The Movie) it was entertaining enough. Three stars because I wasn't tempted to stop reading.
I really like Deaver's "Kathryn Dance" series, but did not care for this book as much as his previous novels. I felt like too much was happening in subplots and the main story was disposed of too easily.
I would rate this a 2.5 if possible.
It is my first read by Deaver and therefore my first read of the Kathryn Dance series, so it seems I started out with #4. It read fine without having read the previous ones in the series except it may have been nice to have some background regarding her and her partner, but not really needed for this story.
Kathryn Dance is an agent with the California Bureau of Investigation and she is a body language expert. Tragedy strikes at Solitude Creek during what was supposed to be a great night out listening to a new and upcoming band. Dance is on the case as well as unofficially on an earlier gang related case. This book has a lot going on at once. I found it to be a little too much for one story. There are several ongoing cases between her and her team as well as both family and relationship matters.
I found some situations to be predictable but there was a still a lot of events that didn't go as I thought which kept the story entertaining.
Not a bad read, just not as good as it could have been for me.

#4- Popsugar 2018: the next book in a series you are reading.
Wow. That ending. About damn time. Appreciated this book more than the others. Deaver took his plot twists down a notch and they were less abrupt. The next question...will there be a 5th book in this series?
