HP Lite

Light, fun, and very much parallels Harry Potter plot lines. Hardcore fans of Harry might not like that. Great summer 2020 read. Looking to read the next in the series.

Very fun read !

I really enjoyed this first book, and I am eager to read more. I’m very interested in learning more about all of the characters presented so far!

3,5/5

Wow Wow Wow......

Now i had tried this Author hot bloods series the first book and really wasn't for me..... So i put this author aside a few years back... however this book fit a challenge i was participating in so thought i would give it a go....

Its not your typical YA the heroine is Mature (for the most part) brilliantly written and doesn't fall in love at the first set of Green eyes.

Its like Ghostbusters and Harry potter had a lovechild.....

Harley Smith is an orphaned empath (and some) working for a casino to find people trying to cheat. After a good payout nights work she stumbles across a monster and the handsome Wade who seems to have certain capabilities similar to her own.....

After that a whole world open up and Harley is thrown headfirst into its underbelly.

I can see certain aspects where the Author has been influenced from other stories but she has combined it with her own unique imagination making it a world i devoured in a day... on to book 2

This started out rough and juvenile to me and got better only after 1/2-3/4 of the book. Enjoyable, quick read.

The idea for the book was interesting. I don't feel like I ever started to really love all of the characters. I am not sure I can pinpoint exactly what let me down but I am not sure I will ready any further in the series.
adventurous emotional inspiring mysterious tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

Amazing! Can't wait to read the next book!

This was a pretty good book. It had interesting magic and culture. The pacing was good. The plot had a twisty, surprising mystery. The characters were intriguing and the main character was easy to like. I was never bored, and liked it from the beginning. The start of the romance is promising. Overall, a good start to a series that is, to my knowledge, complete this month. I will read book 2. 4.5 stars.

DID NOT FINISH

I read 60 pages and found literally anything else on my upcoming list to have more promise. It was poorly written with a story that just didn’t make me want to keep reading. Sadly, I won’t be picking this one up again.

Meh.

I almost stopped listening to this during the interminable world building and introduction phase. Did we really need to hear everyone's name and their magical specialties? For hours? And the points system is stupid. They're supposed to be adults and their lives are not a game!

I ended up listening to the whole book because I wanted to hear Harley's back story, although I guessed most of it. Yes, this is a YA book and therefore more simple in nature but there should be some things to discover and that's not really the case. I guess I need to stay away from most YA books in the future - they tend to make me grouchy.

Cover: Interesting
Narrator: Amanda Ronconi was the main reason I stuck with this to the end.
Hogwarts Sorting Hat: I believe Harley is a Gryffindor.

Themes: witches, coven, family
