YA book on witches, warlocks, and magic but not my genre so take this review with a grain of salt.

It was an easy read but some moments I feel are overdone/not realistic, while other pieces seem kind of original. I know you shouldn't, but it's hard not to compare magic-related books like these to the Harry Potter series and how incredible the world-building was in the HP series.

This book is okay in my opinion. The positives would be: a)he pacing is quite quick which I like in books as it keeps the momentum going, and keeps the main characters on their toes of how they approach each challenge; b)some of the magic pieces seem unique (again try not to compare to HP); c) and the backstory of Harley's parents piqued my curiousity (but why her full name is given as the main title takes away from some of the shock factor) d) and the fact that Harley has 'blocks'.

I would be curious to know where they take the series since it's the first of 15 which means lots to explore and expand on, but I think it may be predictable and the romancy/teenage lusty parts are a bit too much for me. But again not my type of genre. Every now and then I don't mind dipping my toes into these kind of books for the relief-easy-to-read-escapism it offers, but not 15 times for this series.

I suspect if you like Twilight you'll like these books.

So, I've been seeing this author's books floating around and decided to start with this series. I thought it was... okay. I actually really enjoyed the beginning and thought we'd be getting something great, but I think personally I'm tired of the new girl being the one to gain everyone's trust immediately, save the day, and gain high powered enemies. I'm not interested anymore.

This is supposed to be a new adult book, and yet everyone acts like high schoolers, which was weird. Also weird? The ones being sent on the super important mission were 19-21 year olds -- one who only just learned about her powers and not... I don't know any of the other older adults who may be more knowledgeable. Why are these kids the ones who are the strongest and gaining the coven the most points??? It just seemed so weird!! I feel like she should have made this a university or something.

So... yeah, an interesting story and I'm slightly wanting to know where it will go, but not enough to keep going.

3.5 stars
Good start into a new series! I hope the magical system gets developed further in the upcoming books.

I tore through this book in all my spare time. The store was engaging, the heroine sarcastic and witty but strong and resilient. Some parts were predictable and there were some twists I definitely didn’t see coming. This book kept me engaged beginning to end!

Fun times

It's essentially adult harry potter and I'm okay with that. Especially for a kindle unlimited book, free, I was very happy to have found this series and will read the sequels

Before going any further, I wanted to make note that this book (at least at the time of this review) is available on Kindle Unlimited to read for free. This was the medium I chose to read this book.

Ultimately, I'd chosen to read this book because of the continuous comparisons I'd seen of it to Harry Potter when browsing reviews. Admittedly, there were several nuances to this book that had that nostalgic Harry Potter vibe to them.

Although, depending on the severity of your fanship towards Harry Potter, you may almost feel as if these aspects suspiciously feel *too* much like Harry Potter. However, it can be argued that post-Harry Potter and Twilight era of entertainment, everyone seems to snag little fragments of everyone else's stories and try to build upon them. Therefore, it depends on whether you're comfortable with that knowledge going in.

In the end, I felt this was an entertaining read. The author did a splendid job of fleshing out the characters in the story whilst incorporating a few unique twists along the way. I look forward to seeing further character development in future books.

The main character, Harley, is an empath, meaning she can sense people's emotions. I felt this was a very unique take on the paranormal/magical world and look forward to seeing Harley's story unfold further.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for something slightly different from the run-of-the-mill witchcraft and wizardry books, yet desires reminiscent nuances of Harry Potter peppered in like sprinkles on ice cream.

For a book with such high rating, I was not expecting it to be so slow and stilted. The author also has the MC written to be one way but then goes out of character. So you have someone that is supposed to have lots of trust issues that seems to trust everyone.... DNFing this one.

A quick, urban fantasy novel revolving around schools and the revelation of witch powers. It's a fine story with an uncomplicated plot and pretty standard characters. Enjoyable while you're reading, but forgettable.

This was a passably written novel, and a fun light read. I was engaged enough to pick up the second novel. I'd recommend it as a decent book to read on a plane trip or a rainy day.
