Not the incredible next Harry-Potter as touted but a solid fun read!
PG-13 for light language and innuendo

This book was rather boring after the first few chapters. I think I would have enjoyed this book if I was younger and still into my Harry Potter phase. It gives me the same vibes as Harry Potter, the mortal instruments, and Men in Black, which are enjoyable when separate but not when mixed together.
I listened to the audio book version twice the normal speed. Any slower or physical version of this book would've been DNF'ed faster then you can flip a page.
The start was promising but as soon as Harley was introduced to the circle it got unbelievable boring and way too predictable.
The characters are your avarage one-dimensional YA-characters from 2005 including the protagonist. Let me tell you that almost every Harry Potter character has more dimension.
Why am I bringing HP up? Well the author seemed to have taken inspiration from the point system of Hogwarts and it wasn't even good. The grown-ups behave just like the first grade students in Hogwarts and cry and fight over any little injustice more than Draco Malfoy.
Also the author seems to be a big fan of telling instead of showing. I get that Harley is empathic but do you really need to tell as 100% of the time how people are feeling? Show us... So repetitive.

False Advertising!
This book is not "The adult Harry Potter" that's being advertised everywhere.
Frankly it reminded me more of the mortal instruments series, but those books were much better executed.
This reads like mediocre fan fiction.
The writing is poor which makes me wonder if there are any editors involved, and if they're doing their job.
Also it was difficult to see the phrase "blood is thicker than water" misused, especially when specifically comparing the family bond to that of the coven!

Great fantasy book
This is a fun, magical older teen book. I enjoyed learning Harleyโs story and am looking forward to reading more!

This is a new series and new-to-me author. I LOVE IT! I laughed and laughed over the snarky mental comments Harley makes!
Finding out magic is real makes you adjust your thinking... add to that witches, covens, murder, mayhem, and a cute guy or two and you are poised for adventure, but only if the book is well written, and this one is!!!
Once I got a couple chapters into it I did not want to put it down, so I did not!
After finishing it last night I had that momentary panic of, "What do I read next?" Then my heart settled when I remembered this is the first in a series - Yay me! ๐

Very good book
Feels like a mixture of magic of Harry potter, relationships divergent, and the quirkiness of sookie stackhouse books ๐

I really loved the ending to this book, but since I didn't particularly like the very beginning is why I am only giving it 4 stars
