Holy moly. This might be my favorite since the first book. This felt like the most grounded of the series. The ending was incredibly satisfying, with several "oh wow" revelations when pieces get revealed. Really good book.

The only reason I enjoyed the experience of reading Heretics of Dune was that I knew how bad it was in advance. This novel has a terrible reputation, and rightfully so. The pervert old sci fi author stereotype comes out in full force. Even two stars is generous but I must still be under the narcotic influence of my love of Arrakis. But this is one of those books that you’re only reading because you committed to see it through.
Alright, I give up. This book is not as tiresome as God Emperor but still massively overdoes the pompous internal monologuing. And the treatment of sex and women in this still feels like there's fetishizing mixed into the prose. I just don't trust that any of this is going anywhere worthwhile given how meandering the previous books in the series have been. And the endless philosophizing is so monotonous, I'm not sure it would be worth the journey anyway.
