I’l be honest, this book was a mess of perspectives and I did not care one bit for Kosika.
But Kell’s struggles were written so well, his self-worth being tied to his magic, the way it’s still in his reach but he hurts everytime he reaches for it? Golden.
Tes on the other hand, love her! Her magic and power system’s very unique, and the whole thread thing was very fun to watch.
Also, just let Holland rest. For God’s sake, the poor man has been through enough. You’d think he’d get some semblance of peace after he quite literally saved multiple worlds, but he just becomes this ghost thing beside Kosika. (And I’m honestly not convinced that it’s him.)
Writing wise, like I previously mentioned, mess of perspectives. Random flashbacks, but because Schwab’s trying to introduce these new characters along with still clinging onto the old characters, to balance out them + flashbacks, seven years ago five years ago etc etc is a hard feat, and she (sorry) did not pull it off.
But I get Kell. So.

Rocks because you get to return to the world of the original series and it doesn’t feel like reheated nachos for once.

ReadswithRachel, one of my favorite YouTubers, has mentioned this book, this author a time or two. I don’t doubt that it’s a good book but I’m just not in the mood for it right now. Maybe another time? 🤷🏻♀️
7 years between books, and VE Schwab has done something incredible. This might be my favorite book in the series. Maybe favorite book ever.
