I fucking love this series and this new continuation did not disappoint.

I love all the classic characters. Alucard is becoming my fave I think. But I also love the newbies too - Tes is such a great character.

Fantasy at its best. So engaging with great characters and an interesting plot.

Has Lila always been this insufferable?

Great continuation from the Darker Shades of Magic series. Really enjoyed the new and old characters weaving together, the character development, and the plot kept me engaged. There were potentially a few inconsistencies between the two series, but on minor points and could have just been my faulty remembering. Overall fun read and I’m excited for the next book.

The end and some of the things that happen and are said make me want to rate this 4 stars but  few chapters of pay off doesn’t quite make up for what I think is questionable execution.

So much of this is spent in flashbacks that are enjoyable but detract from the new story in ways that I didn’t find that important. I understand where many of these plot lines are headed in a vague way, but I wanted to spend more time with Kosika who often felt like an afterthought. This book very much operates as a way to set her up for bigger things in the future, but it wasn’t always done in a way I enjoyed.

Being back with the original characters was nice. Lila pissed me off a lot and Rhy is kind of side lined in my opinion but everyone had their moments.

Overall I did enjoy it but I also considered quitting almost 400 pages in because I was being bogged down by the story.
