DNF at 30%. I found the majority of the characters unlikeable. I have nothing against body positivity but Crystal’s philosophy borders on delusional as it caters to the science deniers of the fat activism movement. Scott was an absolute AH upon meeting Crystal and only acts nice to her after he realize his Gramps is about to marry her Grandma Flo. But despite all that the worst person was definitely Flo. Insufferable, I don’t care that she’s old. She did not respect Crystal’s boundaries and tried to force Crystal and Scott together AFTER Crystal made it clear she didn’t get along with him? Yuck. We hear Reddit stories of family going No contact for this type of behavior. The minute I saw that Flo planned an ambush at the ax throwing place…..I was done, I was so angry. So yeah. No bueno. Couldn’t do it.

Set On You was a breezy romance novel. It was light enough to not cause panic, but also not intense enough to require me to read non-stop till 2am. It fit just perfectly in the middle.

I love reading all romance novels where the main female character is not the "norm". Be it her body is different, she has a physical disability, or struggles with a mental health diagnosis, I just love them. It makes the character come more alive to me and way more relatable. Crystal was no exception to this. I loved that she had a fuller figure and loved to workout too. It was such a great ode to "all bodies are different". I also enjoyed that Scott was super fit. Not because it made him a "hottie" but because this is parallel to my own life. I'm more curvy, always have been, and my husband is a sexy freak of nature that is made of muscle. I too have had the thought that we don't "fit" together just like Crystal, so all of it was on point for me.

Scott deserves his own paragraph because what an absolute cutie. Him agitating Crystal once they met was like a middle school boy in a man's body. I kind of loved that. He just didn't know what to do with himself. Here is this beautiful man, who by all accounts should have it together, but he's socially awkward. He also won brownie points for sticking everything out. He was patient to wait for Crystal and have the convos that needed to be had. That right there is heart throb material.

So why only 3 stars? The second act breakup/plot/problem whatever you call it, that annoyed me. In general I'm not a fan of that, but this one I just couldn't understand Crystal not letting Scott in. I found that super annoying and rolled my eyes multiple times. Her having those feelings, totally get, that's valid. But not letting someone you love into the conflict with you, I can't relate.

Also, just in general, this wasn't a "capture me and thus become the only thing I think about all day" kind of book. I enjoyed it. It was good. But it wasn't GREAT. I actually enjoyed "Ex's and O's" from Lea more than this one.

Overall, fun read and light enough to not give you a heart attack.

Really liked the gym setting and self acceptance bit in this. Also liked how fast things progressed between Scott and Crystal

I actually really enjoyed this one. I think with the topics it broached they were well handled, especially as someone who struggles with body image and is a regular gym goer them selves. It was the first of Amy Leas books I’d read and I was impressed

4 stars

I really enjoyed this book and is a solid 4 stars. I've been into fitness recently and was drawn in to the premise of this book. Crystal Chen, a biracial Asian, is a curvy fitness influencer. One day she's at the gym doing her workout when a new guy steals an apparatuses from her. She and the hero start playing games with each other at the gym to get under each other's skin, until one day they find out that their grandparents are getting married!

I enjoyed watching Crystal and Scott begin their relationship by dating and getting to know each other. It was so cute to see how much they supported each other and loved each other even before they were an "official" couple. I'm glad I read this debut right away and I can't wait to read Amy Lea's next book!
