I loved the perspective this is written from, it makes the story really interesting while being informative of the activities of bees (with artistic license of course).

Begin as a Book Club book "without humans".
DNF. May pick it up again. About life in a caste system. Have seen some positive reviews but just not my cup of tea. Seems as though I've said that recently about some other books which proffers the question, "What is my cup of tea?" The answer to which changes as frequently as my mood.

Prediction: the ladies of my bookclub hated this book. We shall see later this month.

Meanwhile, I loved it. One of my friends called the descriptions of the bee society "effortless" and I think that's a perfect encapsulation of what was so wonderful about this book. The perspective and society of the hive is carried off without ever seeming overly cute or contrived. Yes, the book is really about bees. No metaphor - actual bees. Even told from the perspective of a bee.

A couple of times, I turned to the internet to ask, do bees really do that? In all instances, the answer turned out to be yes. So I don't know if everything described was accurate, but the things I looked up (including "cooking" a wasp) turned out to be. Who knew? Not me, anyway.

Highly recommended for those willing to shift perspective here.

Задумка оригинальная. Как роман о жизни пчел - просто отлично. Обещанной антиутопии и прочих эпитетов не обнаружил.

I’ve always appreciated bees and we should all help protect them and let them do their thing for us. NEATURE! It was interesting to read this from the perspective of the bee. There were some very descriptive/graphic moments but other times I was like, “Uhh..wut. But they’re bees!” Giving it a solid 3 stars for creativity and originality.

This book blows me away.

The fact that it is written from the perspective of bees is not only interesting, but surprising. I never thought I'd genuinely pity a bee so much in my life, but the character of Flora 717 had me wanting to somehow change the harsh social structure of bees. Overall, the book is written beautifully. It gives illusions of bee life beautifully and I think more accurately than I could have imagined. There was not one aspect of this book that I did not fall in love with. I will definitely find myself looking towards Laline Paull's work in the future.
