Really slow beginning, but the ending made up for it. What felt like unnecessary details came back to be significant later on. The last two hundred pages were impossible to put down! I feel like I need to lower some of my other ratings on SJM books to leave room for how entertaining this was.

I always worry when I start a reread of one of my faves that it won’t be as good as I remember, but I still loved this book so much the third time around. I love Bryce so much. <3

****************REVIEW TRAS 3ª LECTURA****************************************

I really love the storyline of this series and the characters, but this writing style is difficult for me. It’s very different than Sarah’s 2 other series, and that surprised me. The world building is hard to understand and very overwhelming. I had to read this in a combined kindle + audible format in order to finish the story. I can’t stay engaged in the first 1-2 parts of CC1 because of how different the writing style is and the intricate world building.

Overall, this is an excellent story with great characters. Plenty of twists/turns to keep you guessing, but might be hard for some people to read. If you can make it through the world building, it’s definitely worth the read. Don’t be surprised if it takes you more time than normal to finish the story.

2021: 3.75 stars
2024: 4.25 stars

When I originally read this back in 2021 i rated it a bit lower because back then I didn’t know this was more of a mystery-fantasy, which caught me kind of off guard. Also in 2021 the smut and sexually explicit comments and descriptions really bothered me. Now I know that smut isn’t really my thing so whenever there is smut or certain comments being made regarding sex I just read over it and ignore it.

I had an absolutely wonderful time re-reading this book. I had forgotten how much I enjoy SJM’s writing. Are her books literary masterpieces? No. But are they filled with action and hella entertaining? Yes. I’m so excited for the second and third book!! (Even though I have been spoiled for House of Sky and Breath
