High School me would have crushes on Alix (hockey girl) & Ezra (drama boy). I'd be at all the hockey games & plays cheering for them. Then when they start dating each other, first I'd have myself a little cry, then write fanfic about my OTP.

The story was as real as its gets. The heavy themes of generational trauma and bullying were balanced with celebrating passions and finding your people. I appreciated too that even the happiest of characters were allowed to their flaws and the sad would find their confidence.

There are also some major callouts of sport and high school "culture" that will be so valuable for young readers. There are toxic behaviors that adults/coaches/teachers turn a blind eye to because "thats how its always been" and this story says "Enough!" It helps heal older readers traumas knowing their experiences are valid. That adults did fail them and its not their fault.
