I've been a fan of Faith Erin Hicks's art style for a while now, so I'm always really excited for anything she puts out, simply because I know the art will be stunning. So going into this, I was prepared to love that, but it was also the story itself I fell in love with. Alix and Ezra are such relatable characters and impossible not to love. I love how sweet Alix is and I love how kind Ezra is. Together, they were such a sweet couple and reading this was a breath of fresh air. This story packs a lot in its 300 pages, and the characters grow so much and they grow together as well as individually. I loved seeing how these two main characters went through their lives and how they managed to grow during a pretty difficult time for both of them.

This story has so much love in its pages from the actual storyline to the love that Faith Erin Hicks put in her art. All of the elements came together beautifully. And I especially want to point out how much I adored Alix. As someone who grew up the tallest girl in her class for most of her life, I related so much to the struggles Alix faced. It's so hard feeling out of place and uncomfortable in your own body, to the point that you feel like you take up too much space physically, so you try to shrink yourself mentally (and Alix expresses this sentiment and I almost cried reading it). And I just identified with her so much and felt like she was especially well done.

I took off a hair of a star just because I felt like we sped through some parts of the story that I really wanted to linger on (i.e Alix
Alix joining a new hockey team
, Ezra's relationship with his mom's boyfriend, and Alix's relationship with her dad). But that's a minor gripe and, obviously, I still enjoyed reading this wholeheartedly and am anxiously awaiting Hicks's next graphic novel!

Thanks so much to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Messy and charming. Art is gorgeous. Sometimes frustrating, but the character relationships are really fun.

Beautiful, moody artwork and characters with relatable struggles. I loved how the main characters found each other and fell in love, it was so heartwarming.

The pacing was too quick and jolted in some parts. The bullying felt melodramatic, but I don't know if that's my privilege speaking, so I'm curious how other readers felt about it. Neither ruined my enjoyment of the story, they were just noticeable enough to break immersion in a few places.
