Very cute and funny! I’ve read Square and Triangle, so when I saw that Circle was new, I had to read this one, too!

I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

If you enjoyed Triangle and Square, then you'll definitely enjoy Circle. This picture book has a lot going for it. Klassen is able to give three very basic shapes ample personality and convey reactions with his illustrations. Barnett has written a fun quirky story with plenty of opportunities to engage children while reading aloud with them.

As a librarian, I am always on the lookout for storytime books. This is one I will be using in the future.

The story gives reader and listeners opportunities to talk about shapes, count to 10, talk about rules and following rules, and also about the dark and other things that can be scary.

This book works really well.  It stands out from other books for it’s simplicity of story and it’s simplicity of illustration.

Mac Barnett is so great at keeping it simple but oh so witty at the same time! Also, Jon Klassen is possibly the only illustrator that can put so much tone and emotion into 3 shapes with eyes - I don't know how he does it!

This would make a great read-aloud to K-2 and I would even read it to older kids who might appreciate the wit a little more. This librarian loves open ended questions in the end to move seamlessly into a discussion about the book. Love it!

Three friends, Circle, Square, and Triangle play hide-and-seek. Circle closes her eyes and counts, but when she opens them, Square tells her that Triangle has hidden in the dark place that was out of bounds for this game. Although frightened, Circle goes there to seek Triangle. When they meet, they both make an unexpected discovery.

Barnett and Klassen are an author and illustrator team that are known for their minimalist style of picture books. This one is designed to engage a discussion between the parent or caregiver reading and the young child or children listening to the story. The book brings up a number of topics that could be discussed: use of the imagination, friendship, shapes, fears (especially of the dark), courage, following the rules, following directions, speaking your mind, apologizing to a friend, mistaken identity, or dealing with the unknown. And more that may come from the child's point of view.

The final instalment in the shape trilogy, circle rounds off (sorry!) the tale of the three friends. Although the story is one of play and hide-and-seek, deeper themes on breaking rules and stereotypes rests beneath the surface to be explored when the reader is ready.

I had been looking forward to the close of the trilogy so much, having found Triangle and Square to be such a humorous duo. Although Klassen delivers once again, the narrative just didn’t have the punch that the others had for me.

Thank you NetGalley for the review copy of this book. It's hard to beat Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen. The illustrations are simple and beautiful. The story shows us Circle's bravery and what a good friend he is to the other shapes. I especially love the invitation to image at the end of the book. This is the perfect story for preschool kids.
