Rescue & Jessica: A Life-Changing Friendship by Scott Magoon, Patrick Downes, Jessica Kensky

One of my all time favorites - it melts my heart every time. Rescue and Jessica are close to giving up when they realize that what they need is each other. A bit too lengthy for a storytime, but an incredible story of resolve, perseverance, and strength - both in yourself and in others.

Emotional, of course, but informative without pathos.

A beautiful story based on real life that helps teach kids what service dogs are, what they do, and how they're trained.

I loved this. Wonderful story and illustrations. So happy for Rescue & Jessica. Monarch 2020 nominee.

This book follows both Rescue the service dog and Jessica, a girl who eventually becomes a double amputee, focusing on their journeys to one another as well as how the world becomes more accessible, joy filled, and peaceful. I really like that this book is so positive and sweet, while still acknowledging how emotionally painful and scary it is to go through such an endeavor. It was just educational enough that kids will get a sense of service dogs and how the process works, as well as the hard, long work that goes into relearning how to do life as an amputee.
