Jessica tells her story through her POV and that of her new service dog, who is determined to do well in his new role. It seemed like an accessible mode of storytelling for kids. I also thought it was interesting that Jessica left her injury cause out of the narrative, opening up more connections for kids with disabilities from a variety of causes.

A fantastic book, inspired by a true story,  that taught our kids about service dogs and their work as well as some of the hardships people who become amputees might endure.

Our 5 year old was extra interested after having seen someone with a prosthetic at summer camp this week. It was a great way to start conversations about curiousity being ok but not necessarily needing to be fulfilled and showing him that even though our bodies may be different in some ways all people deserve respect and privacy.

We really enjoyed this book; a great disability pride month read!

It was a great book! This tells children what a service dog can do and how they can help others. It was very uplifting and inspirational.

Rescue and Jessica lack confidence in themselves but when they come together they make a great team! This story is based on a runner injured during the Boston marathon bombing.

This book means so much to me - as someone who has seen loved ones go through trauma (different from the book), there were parts I could relate to. I'm glad this book is here.

This book made me tear up, oh my goodness. I think this would be great for kids to read, whether they have physical disabilities or not. And the fact that this is based on Kensky's life makes it even more touching and powerful because people can still learn from her experiences.
