The Cornish Cream Tea Bus - Cressida McLaughlin

Baking fanatic, Charlie Quilter, is surprised when her late uncle bequeaths his vintage bus to her in his will. Keen to give the bus a new lease of life, Charlie thinks it will be the perfect mobile café for afternoon tea, and when her friend, Juliette, suggests Charlie comes to stay with her in the picturesque Cornish village of Porthgolow, she’s thrilled at the chance of a new start.

Charlie and her cute dog, Marmite, make new friends wherever their bus stops – except for the sexy but reclusive owner of the posh spa up on the hill, Daniel Harper, who isn’t very pleased that her bus is parked outside his lovely hotel.

Has Charlie’s Cornish dream developed a soggy bottom? Or can she convince Daniel that her bus could be the start of something wonderful for the little village – and for them?

Having seen that the latest book in this series (Book 5) will be released soon, I thought that I would start this series from scratch. I am glad that I have decided to start from the beginning as this was a lovely feel-good book and I am definitely looking forward to reading through this series.

It is a lovely treat to get to know Charlie and her fellow residents of Porthgolow. The story has a good level of romance, but also focuses on Charlie making a name for herself whilst setting up a new business. Anyone looking for an uplifting, touching story needs to look no further than this book.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins for offering this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Charlie has inherited her uncle's vintage double decker bus and has turned it into a traveling cream tea cafe! She and her dog Marmite move to the village of Porthgolow in Cornwall to stay with friends and to give Charlie's fledgling business a go.

The story is mostly predictable and is slow moving in parts, but since it's a comfort/summer read, these aren't faults. Charlie's feistiness did feel a bit forced at times, as did her tendency to jump to conclusions, though. There's love, drama, friendship, locals both for and against Charlie's plans, and pets, not to mention lots of baking going on..

Gertie, the bus, would be a dream come true for me and I found myself drifting off into daydreams about what I could do with my own vintage bus if I were lucky enough to have one. I decided I'd turn it into a personal library and hide it away in a quiet part of our smallholding as my little retreat.

There were several characters I'd love to know more about like the recluse in the yellow cottage. I'd love to read her book!

All in all, a nice comforting story full of warmth, drama, optimism, and interesting characters.
