If you’re into YA fantasy with a little bit of romance you might really like this book.
This books is really a hit or miss, some people love it and other hate it. I thought it was a fun, entertaining read. It introduced you to the shadowhunter world and the storyline was very adventurous and fun, I have to say that it got really slow at certain point and then in other chapters you can’t put it down.

I liked the storyline but I could never quite convince myself that these characters were 15/16. I seemed like they should have been a lot older. And the similes drove me up the wall. After awhile I was just skipping over them.
Without knowing anything about the author beforehand I thought that this book seemed a lot like Harry Potter. I must admit when Valentine was first introduced I rolled my eyes and thought the author should have just called him Voldemort. The whole story felt like pieces had been lifted from other stories; HP and bits of Star Wars (brother/sister thing) come to mind.
I'm giving this review a higher rating because despite the fact I felt like I've read pieces before, the overall story was new and I was intrigued to find out what would happen next. I will end up picking up the next books to see where the stories go.
