The love story was adorable but I wish the author went more in depth on the characters. Ada’s past divorce and her childhood has her believing she isn’t lovable and that anyone who gets close will realize this. She is starting fresh in a new town to do things her way, but her insecurities have followed her to Wyoming. She does grow and change, but it felt like she only managed to do that because Wes was the perfect supportive man, and not because she learned to love herself. Wes was the literal sweetest, but his need to help everyone was a sign of the lack of value he places on himself. It is mentioned that he is on anti depressants and goes to therapy, but I felt like his character didn’t learn and grown within the story. He was a good guy at the start and was a good guy at the end. He never learned to put himself first or take stock in why he bends over backwards to make sure everyone else thinks he’s a valuable member of the ranch. He doesn’t grow as a character and I thought that was a shame. Still really enjoyed the world that Lyla Sage created here at Rebel Blue and look forward to seeing Teddy and Gus go head to head in book 3.

“when you’re treated a certain way for so long, you start to believe that’s how you should be treated. it left me feeling like there wasn’t anything about me that someone could love.”
oh, ada… honestly, she was a little *too* relatable at points but i’m so glad she found her happy ending in meadowlark, wyoming. such a sweet story that i absolutely devoured in two sittings.

Honestly this book didn’t seem super memorable. The parts that I was interested in exploring more - Ada’s attachment issues, the fallout from her divorce, how she was rebuilding herself, Wes’ depression, Wes’ middle-child syndrome, etc - were all just mentioned but not really explored or dug into. I think the book could’ve used more of that depth.
The pacing of their relationship felt very interesting too. I appreciated that Wes followed her lead and respected her (bare minimum), but also the last 30% felt very rushed. It felt very much like the bow was tied to get out the message the author wanted - but it was told more so than shown.
