I don't read a lot of non-fiction. This book is excellent! One of the best books I have read in a long time. The true story of Joe Rantz (and Joyce) and the other 8 UW rowers is compelling and almost impossible to put down.

This was a pretty good account and very interesting story, but definitely glossed over a lot of the extremely important things going on in the world (which definitely affected who got picked for a team and how well different countries were able to train and perform-- political landscape is not irrelevant to the sports world.)

Portrayed U.S. as "land of liberty" with no mention of the white privilege that benefited the 9 rowers. Glossed over the racism, xenophobia, and violence happening within the U.S. in the 1930s.
