The FMC was one of the most unlikeable characters I’ve come across this year, and the MMC was way too good to be so willing to put up with her crap.

I expected something else based on the summaty of the book. Too many ups and downs and she made the same mistake over and over again. It had good moments, but there were too many things bugging me

All hail Zach the king of 🍑😛 and grand gestures 🫶🏻

I read this like 70% via audio, while not my favorite narrators I did enjoy listening to this book because there were some long-ish chapters. I can’t wait to read Belle’s book!

Did not love FMC, drove me nuts

I didn’t write this review immediately after reading The Wrong Game and I am actually quite glad that I didn’t. Kandi actually did a Facebook Live video yesterday that really helped me put my thoughts and The Wrong Game into perspective. Kandi puts so much of herself into her novels, but The Wrong Game is truly Kandi shining through and that’s what makes The Wrong Game so special. This novel is her love letter to football. It’s her love letter to romance. And most importantly, it’s her love letter to her readers.

The Wrong Game is an emotional football romance that will score a touchdown in your heart. (God, that was so cheesy, I even had a hard time writing it.)

“Death has a funny way of putting life into perspective for us.”

The Wrong Game hits the ground running. I honestly had no clue what I was expecting from this book; however, what I got… I probably never would have dreamed of. Like I said, Kandi’s Facebook Live really put things into perspective for me. The Wrong Game is angst-y. But, it’s not the normal type of angst for Kandi. I think a lot of her novels get so deep and dark that sometimes you wonder how you’ll ever find the light at the end of the tunnel. But, with The Wrong Game there’s almost a lightness to it that I wasn’t expecting.

Don’t get me wrong. I still have not survived a Kandi Steiner book without crying, but I was pleasantly surprised with how much fun Kandi was having with The Wrong Game. And due to her Facebook Live, I realize now why that lightness and that fun shined through so much.

“I played that thought on repeat like a Britney Spears song circa 1999 as I got ready for the game Sunday afternoon.”

Gemma Mancini has some serious issues. And can we really blame the girl? I would absolutely be in the same spot she is if I were in her shoes. After Natalie, I see the most of myself in Gemma. It is so hard to open yourself up to love again after you’ve been burned. And by burned, I mean constant excruciating flames.

And even though Gemma has been burned, there is something about her that is so radiant. She has the melancholy brilliance of the moon. She still finds a way to have that lust for life that so many of us crave. It might take some persuading from her best friend, Belle, but Gemma continues to be a force to be reckoned with.

“That’s right, I was born and bred feminist and proud of it.”

Zach Bowen. Where do I start with Zach Bowen? He’s one of the cutest and cheesiest heroes I’ve ever read. Normally too much cheese can pull me out of the story, but Zach had something about him that made all of his ooey-gooey comments seem so damn romantic and real. I became as addicted to him as Gemma did. I wanted his electric gaze on me. I wanted his sweet smiles. I wanted him to whisper in my ear how happy he was that I existed.

The best part about Zach Bowen, though? He knew what it was like to be hurt. To be broken. He knew how to heal Gemma’s heart. That’s truly the beauty of The Wrong Game—two broken people figuring out how to be whole again.

“Inhale, you bitch.”

I have to talk about Belle. She honestly stole the show. Her sarcastic and sassy attitude. Her hilarious one-liners. Her brokenness. She was the perfect best friend… especially for Gemma. And honestly, I truly hope that Belle gets her own love story one day. I will absolutely devour it. She deserves the world!

Make sure to pick up The Wrong Game. It’s the perfect fall read.
