The Wrong Game

Super cute story. I loved both characters and how it 100% revolved around football

i got so bored… and then i got annoyed

A fun, sexy, and adorable romance- this book has it all! Gemma and Zach’s relationship was so relatable. Like Gemma, I have an OCD-wired brain and thrive on creating lists and itineraries. When my schedule doesn’t go as planned, I have an internal (sometimes external) breakdown.

ZACH BOWEN

Started off good, but then started to drag on towards the end.

I was so excited when this book landed on my Kindle. I've only read two books by Kandi Steiner in the past but I instantly fell in love with her work! Girl is darn good at the romance and the angst and I knew that she had pretty much become an insta-buy author for me.

I was hooked on The Wrong Game as soon as I began reading. It was definitely hard not to. Even in the very beginning, Gemma was a very poignant character that made me feel for her on such a level that it honestly hurt my heart to read her story. The things that her husband put her through were so terrible and it wasn't hard, as a married woman, to relate and empathize with her and how the events left her broken on the inside. My husband and I have an amazing relationship and we're a really strong couple, just like Gemma and her husband. Her entire world turned upside down so quickly and everything that she thought was perfect turned her on her head. Just the idea of my relationship with my husband turning out the same way makes me want to cry.

Enter The Game. Gemma's best friend was an amazing character. She was smart, sassy, and broken in her own way. I was deeply intrigued by her character and I hope that someday Kandi will allow us a story of her own. I loved that she challenged Gemma and knew what her friend truly needed in order to grow and heal.

I'm not a crazy sports person but I occasionally enjoy reading sports romance, just to enjoy something different outside of my norm. The football aspect of this book was great and you could really tell that Kandi is a fan herself. The games were a lot of fun and it was great to witness the growth of Gemme and Zach's relationship and how football played a role in it.

Zach himself was a truly great, swoon-worthy character. He seemed different than a lot of the male protagonists in romance books today and I loved that he wasn't exactly like all the others.

I couldn't get enough of this book and I honestly could easily see myself rereading it again in the future. Great, heart-wrenching story with amazing characters.

This book made me laugh, made me bawl my eyes out cry. It was an absolutely beautiful love story! Loved it, Definitely gonna go on my reread list.

Ugh! This book was so unexpectedly cute!! Zack is now one of my favorite male love interests. Everything about him is perfect. This book was equal parts emotional and funny and everything you’d want in a romance book. Absolutely adorable!! This was also my first read from this author and you bet I’ll be reading more, starting with Belle’s story!!☺️

"We were in it together, no matter what was to come, and we would fight for the win. For each other. Until the last whistle blew."

I breezed through The Wrong Game audiobook and it had everything I've come to expect from Kandi Steiner: that emotional pull mixed with fun lighter moments, loveable characters and... spice! In this instance, we have Gemma and Zach, who meet at the bar where he works one night. Gemma has season tickets to the Bears and with her best friend, Belle, decides to take a different guy to each home game as she's not ready to date yet. Zach agrees to be her practice round but falls hard and fast. But is Gemma ready?

I sympathised with Gemma from the first chapter. She was such a strong and resilient character, doing what many others probably couldn't in a similar situation. I completely understood her need for control and plans and her fear was understandable after having her heart broken by her late husband. That little twist near the end actually made me audibly gasp and my heart ached alongside Gemma's. She deserved so much better!

While her and Zach's relationship was anything but smooth-sailing, I'm glad she finally decided to let down her walls and let herself be happy with him. Is there anything better than two hurt souls throwing caution to the wind and trusting in their love? I think not. Their chemistry was apparent from the beginning and honestly, how could anyone not fall in love with Zach?

He was a total softie who knew what he wanted. He didn't give up on Gemma even when his persistence didn't pay off. He also had the sweetest family support and was so caring and patient with Gemma. I adored him.

Finally, I loved how football was such a strong part of their story. While I'm a rugby fan in Australia, I could picture myself in the stands and I understood Gemma's passion for her team. Can we please also take a moment to appreciate Belle? I wish I had a best friend like her in my life and I can't WAIT for her story. Bring it on!

This book was everything I needed to get me in the fall state of mind! The perfect mix of football, romance, and angst! The setting for this story, Chicago, one of my favorite cities, was the icing on the cake.

The prologue had me holding my breath. It was painful, raw, and hooked me right away. I couldn’t get enough of the football theme that ran throughout the entire story. It was so fun and I could relate to the story so easily. (I’m as obsessed with baseball as Gemma is with football!) The pacing was set so well that I didn’t even realize it was 3am and I only had about 10% left to read.

Gemma Mancini is looking for a fresh start and with the beginning of the football season there’s no better time. She has been hurt in the past and her trust in men completely shattered. She is determined to stick to her plan of taking a different guy to every home game this season. She’s not open to a new relationship, she just wants to have some well deserved fun. Zach, a swoony, strong, and handsome bartender throws himself into her plan and neither of them are quite ready for what happens next.

I loved watching them navigate their feelings for each other while both having to deal with their pasts. Life isn’t always easy and we can’t always let completely go of our past. What happens to us throughout our life, makes us who we are and shapes what kind of future we can have.

I absolutely loved Gemma’s best friend, Belle! Everyone needs a best friend like her. Someone who will call them on their crap and constantly be looking out for them their best interests. Oh! I can’t forget about Zach’s younger brother Micah. He was so funny! I laughed out loud while reading the scenes with him.

This was not the most gut-wrenching book I’ve read by Kandi but I absolutely loved it just the same! Do yourself a favor, whether you like football or not, you’ll fall in love with these two!

Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.

3.75 rounded up to 4 stars. Zach is an all in, hopeless romantic. I thought he was such a good hero. He always knew Gemma needed. You could tell he was a very respectable kind guy. Gemma was a afraid of falling in love. She funny and cute. I liked the premise of the book being around the tickets to the Bears game, family, and friends. This book delt with grief, and hard life circumstance. I liked this book but it was not my favorite Kandi Steiner book. I felt like there could have been a bit more but I think, although the characters were good I just didn't connect with them as much as I would have liked.
