Makes one think about the influences of others on whether someone is selfish or benevolent.
Interesting, some historic facts shortly after the civil war about the industry in America and the poverty in Ireland. There is a relationship, not really about love, but a bit with the maid and the master, but it doesn’t end well, because the maid took an identity of a dead woman and therefore had to leave, when she was identified by her mistress after a year or so working for her
I really struggled to get into this book, forced myself to read it and it was ok. I feel like the ending was very disappointing though, we never know if Clara's family ever came to America? Did she see them again?

historical fiction, interesting story about Irish and Scottish immigrants in the US in the late 1800s. Those with money lived in extreme luxury with furnishings, food and clothing that cost more money than the poor could earn in a lifetime. Others couldn't find jobs and starved to death.
This story tells how Andrew Carnegie changed from ruthless business man to philanthropist from the influence of his mother's maid.

I enjoyed reading this book. I think it was well-written and creative. Its definitely complete fiction, which was a little disappointing upon research. But I still learned a lot and enjoyed following the plot.

The idea of this story is great, and Carnegie is always a fun subject but this could have used an extra 100 pages to flush out the story.
