Really, I'd give this book a 3.5, but Goodreads won't let me.
Anyway. This is one of those books that I'm glad I stuck with- the beginning is slow, but the ending is rewarding enough, even if it is a bit unlikely. The author's choice of pacing drove me a little crazy (the first half of the book is all in the 60's, then we jump to 2003, with the 60's sprinkled in,) so if you aren't paying very close attention to the date header, it takes some time getting used to where you are, especially since the same characters (with the exception of Rory and Ellie) are throughout the book. Overall, if this book could have been edited a bit more, it definitely could have received a 4 or a 5 from me- the writing is beautiful, the time period rather spot on, the story itself has enough twists and turns to keep the reader interested, as long as they make it past the first third of the book.

I did not enjoy this book. I found the summary to be very misleading to what actually lies within the pages. This did not seem sophisticated to me. And the love story my opinion was immoral. I felt like this book justified and glorified cheating in a marriage. I understand at the time things were different, but I was never rooting for the FMC. It made it hard to get through this book. It also states that it is a page turner which is not true. I found this book to be very dry, slow, and the characters to be unlovable. Yvonne and Lori seem to be the only sensible characters in the book. It was also confusing how the FMC switched 60% of the way through the book. I feel like the author could have adapted this better and switched point of view throughout the story. The only reason that it wasn’t a one is because the story started with an interesting concept. However, the rest of the book did not live up to my expectations. I would not recommend this book.
Olihan tämä ihan älyttömän loistava kirja, jonka ahmin mahdollisimman nopeasti.

I really enjoyed this book. I found the second half of the book to be a lot better/more interesting than the first half. The twists and surprises towards the end make it all worth it for me.
The beginning was slow and no indication of how brilliant a story it is, 25% in I was knocked sideways by events, hooked, and read it in two hits. Unique plot, very cleverly executed & knitted together. The synopsis may speak of Brief Encounter but it is so much more. Keeps you on the edge of your seat until the last page. Jo Jo Moyes at her very best.
Jojo Moyes has long been an auto-buy author for me, and her books are often my go-to when I need to break out of a reading slump. Unfortunately, this particular story—though I listened to it on audiobook—didn’t quite resonate with me. It lacked the emotional pull and engaging momentum I’ve come to expect from Moyes’ work. While I appreciate her storytelling, this one felt a bit flat and ultimately forgettable for me.

I had the audiobook read by Julia Franklin. I don’t think the narrator sold it for me. I usually listen at default speed, but this once I had to increase the speed to make it tolerable.
Two time frames, two affairs the link one person is in each time frame is a journalist.
Ellie finds a love letter in the archives and decides to make a feature with it.
So I know in the 60’s speech patterns were more stilted and prim especially in high society but I found it irritating. The worse part was that it didn’t loosen up in the modern time frame. So this has adversely affected my rating.
As with most dual time lines I preferred the older one.
