This one caught me off guard in so many ways. Fascinating premise, with all of civilization being sent to Antarctica by a mysterious alien race. Some of the pacing/timing didn't sit right with me. That's a lot of development, both community and science wise, to occur in a 20 year span. I also was hoping to get some more insight on what was going on with the aliens and on the early years of the settlements on Antarctica. That aside, it was a really interesting look at what it means to belong and to be human. Really compelling, with some developments that really took me by surprise.

The book is interesting indeed and sent me to the atlas to check out the Antarctic Peninsula, the Ross Ice Shelf and even to google the McMurdo station. I really enjoyed reading this, the thought experiments it made me do (who would I bring with me to the Antarctic, what would I save from our civilisation, etc) and the tension between the Cold People and ordinary-born people. This book is another winner from Tom Rob Smith!

DNF at 70% because it just kept going down hill. The beginning was decent

This is fantastic sci-fi! As has been said, this is not an alien occupation book, that's just the catalyst for the plot. This is a very human, science-y, survival book and I loved it! The plot never lagged, I cared about the characters and I definitely had to find out how these people would make it. The sci-fi aspects of this are hard to talk about without spoilers but man, it was great and chilling. Must read in winter

Cold People goes hard, and leaves you with a lot to reflect on. This book left me messed up.

Despite a number of structural flaws (invasion out of nowhere with no additional info, unresolved plot), the story was gripping and left me thinking in a good way. The thing I keep coming back to in my head is actually the dogs at the end.
