I think it was really well written. You’re hooked from the beginning trying to figure out who did it. Definitely an unexpected ending.
Great mystery!
Back cover will make perfect book talk.

One of 5 friends was killed while hunting. No one steps forward to say it was his gun, but it is believed to be an accident. Seeing the story unfold through the eyes of a girl interning at the prosecutor's office who also seemed to have a texting relationship with the dead boy. She is determined not to let the other boys get away with it, and, during the investigation, she is stunned to learn the dead boy wasn't who she thought he was.
Shreveport places scattered throughout the book. Rhino, Breathe Yoga, and one more.

I really enjoyed this even though it was pretty far fetched. Five HS boys go into the woods for a hunt, only four make it out alive. Which one of them shot their friend? The only person who seems invested in finding the truth is a HS aged girl who works for a local prosecutor and has way too much involvement in a case of this magnitude. Even so, I was hooked and wanted to know what really happened.

This is one of the best thrillers I’ve read all year. I could not put it down. I truly didn’t know who dunnit til the end, even though I could see how all the pieces were starting to fit together, and there is just the right amount of romance to be juicy but not cringe. I also love the way it’s told with the main character narrating over video dialogue so you don’t have the exposition of describing what a character is doing.
I NEVER have time to read books quickly and yet I managed to polish this off in 24 hours. Hooked from the very beginning and had no idea which boy was guilty until the author's reveal at the very end. Suspenseful & a definite page-turner. Only 4 stars because it was a bit unrealistic that a high school senior would be, not only working for a DA but also allowed such intimate access to a homicide case. Other than that, perfect!
It's a well paced mystery, with the author never spelling it out the answers or giving clues too fast or slow. Character development was also done well, the River Point boys never blend together or become stock characters.
I did have one issue that bothered me at the beginning---I almost couldn't get past the boys all claiming that no one knew who had which gun, but as the story evolved I kind of just got over it (I think...sort of), but I think most teens will be able to just go with it.
I've enjoyed the author's previous books, and I look forward to reading more by her!

This is an okay story, but in my opinion it is in no way believable that they’re high schoolers. Especially with the jobs the girls had. And how is one high school girl, by herself, finding all this stuff when no one else did. Sure, the boys family’s didn’t want things found, but it just felt odd.
This book was intense. The main reason why I enjoyed it, was because of the slow, continuous build Elston maintained throughout the story. Don't get me wrong I was still a bit shocked when I found out the truth at the end but I would've liked a bigger plot twist. That's just my preference though! I also really like Elston's style of telling the story. How she told the perspective of the killer throughout the chapters and the reader got to learn what went through his head throughout everything.
Katie, the main character, is thankfully unlike most female lead characters. She is determined, strong and very real. I especially liked how she was able to keep her emotions in check the majority of the time. For a teenager to be so encapsulated in a murder case can take a toll on the average person, but instead of the overly emotional act, we got a bit of something different.
All in all I would definitely recommend this if you enjoy a good mystery without some of the dramatic tendencies.
