3.5 ⭐ which means I enjoyed it just enough.
the book starts off with the death of the US president, and it's memorial. the quickly picks up from there.
we follow several points of views, relating to Dr. Alex Cross, and the rest are to several assassins.
one by one assassins are uncovered, and how they prepare and do their killings, to later find out who they are targeting. within all that, there is a need to uncover who are the culprits, and why are they killing off people from the government. the uncovering and the process of it all are really interesting.
Pros:
1- un-put-down-able once you start.
2- fast-paced
3- easy-to-follow writing style
4- interesting well-woven plot
5- characters are well thought, different personalities
6- character development was good
7- events were considered realistic, and easy to imagine and not get lost in the process
8- through my first James Patterson book, I did not feel the need to read the previous books to understand. well written
Cons:
1- Very Dense book, which took me longer to finish (finished 3 books while still reading this on the side)
2- not a book I would read on a whim, different than what I usually pick up, so maybe this influenced my enjoyment
3- there are a few chapters that I literally skimmed and almost skipped because it has no use. especially the one where Cross was at his Son's game. so unnecessarily lengthy.
4- I was lost a bit, with who is targeting who. little time spent on making characters memorable. but it's not that bad
All in all, I think it might require a reread, so I can pick up on some of the connections and all again. maybe I would rate it higher then.
but i would recoomend it to people who would like this genre.

really liked this book and i’ll definitely read others james patterson’s books. maybe i’ll start from the beginning of the alex cross series but the end of this book makes me want to read rn the next one

This book is very exciting!

Another solid performance by James Patterson in this book featuring Alex Cross. In this novel, the President has just been buried when multiple assassinations take place. Alex has to chase down whomever is killing the most powerful people in the administration, and determine why.
The book has moments of unnecessary gore and violence, to show you how depraved one of the killers is. I don't like those extra graphic murders in any novel.
The book touches on Bitcoin and cryptocurrency and the effect it may have on money movement.
The book also has a subplot about a woman's obsession with sexual domination and submission. I wasn't really sure why this was part of the book, except to show Alex Cross's professional postion with his patients and his own vulnerabilities. Plus, it leads to a bit of a cliff hanger at the end of the book.
I do like how Alex's family plays an important role in his life and are always highlighted in the novels.

First off, this is my favourite James Patterson series but this was dragging in parts. Delete a few chapters and it would be another good edition. It was hard at times to figure out whose POV I was reading.
The pace picked up coming towards the end which was nice and tidy.

Fast paced and action packed. First time reading a James Patterson novel (I think).

Too far-fetched for me. And I have read this book/plot a few other times, and they were better and more believable stories. Villains were totally unbelievable and preposterous, no way in the world THOSE villains could pull off THIS plot. .
