Angst Angst Angst and then it's over.

85% of the book dealing with how she feels about her father, it's over in literally one paragraph when he dies in an avalanche.

85% of the book dealing with how he feels about being a dragon, it's over in less than a page. Then it's not revisited at all, it's just gone.

Omg she was branded against her will. I assumed we were leaving up to love interest finding it before she told him and then it would be pages of him thinking she'd betrayed him and not talking to her and whatever. Noooooo, he finds out and then poof doesn't care. It's not even a blip in the page. The whole thing didn't even need to happen.

It was Ok, but all the conflicts were solved almost instantly…
He’s afraid he’ll lose control? Bam! he gets angry, shifts, and now he isn’t. She hates her father, the cruelest king of all the land? Let’s kill him in an avalanche while she looks him in the eye and now he isn’t a problem. She’s over it, by the way. And the whole deal with the brand they forced on her? Not even a problem. Nobody cares. Why was that even in the book?
I haven’t read the first two books in the series, and I can’t say I liked the couples from those two books that appear here. This IS a standalone, I give it that. And it was entertaining, though the “romance” came a little out of nowhere.

The plot moves quite quickly but the romance is a slow-burn.

No sex scenes. Only 1 near the end but short and vague. No crude language or modern-day profanity.

Writing near the start felt a bit off, rushed (in thoughts and emotions) and on-the-nose at times where it just told the reader a lot. Got better near the end.

❤️ warring kingdoms
❤️ close proximity (due to circumstances)
❤️ enemies to lovers
❤️ shifters, mages

❤️ knife-wielding FMC
❤️ multiple POV
(Dorin, Brielle and occasionally one of the antagonists, D’Aboville)

enemies to lovers done well

I enjoyed this addition to the series. I liked how the enemies to lovers trope was done. There are a few things I wish had more closure but honestly in all it was a great read.

I really enjoyed the first two books in this series and I can’t remember why I didn’t read this one at the time. It’s just as much fun as the other two, but since there are shared characters and stories, I wish I had read them closer together when I remembered everything better.

The story is very exciting - lots of action, great characters and interesting details of the elven court. Princess Brielle of Wylfen hates her father and his persecution of magic wielders and witches, but she feels powerless to help. Until one day an Elven dragon crashes into her courtyard and she ends up needing to flee with a witch she rescues from the dungeon. The Elf who turns into a dragon is the Crown Prince of neighboring Balaur who Wylfen has been making war on for decades. Dorin and Brielle need to find a way to make peace between the two countries.

Brielle is a great character - strong, curious, brave, determined. It took me a bit to warm up to Dorin - he was being kind of an idiot in the first half of the book - very, poor, poor me I’ll have to exile myself for the good of my family. I get it, he was dealing with a lot, but he’s sort of a jerk about it. (Werian says it best when he calls Dorin “you tumult of determined agony” - I love Werian.) And, these people really need to learn how to communicate!

Book 3 in the Kingdom of Lore series does not disappoint! I loved the tale of Brielle and Dorin. We met the feisty princess of Wylfenden in Enchanting the Fae Prince and Dorin is brother to Prince Filip who was featured in Enchanting the Elven Mage. It was fun to get to know these characters more and I think this might even be the best book in the series so far! There’s lots of action as the characters face off against the Wylfen and the romance is swoony. Plus there’s new magic since Dorin can suddenly shift into a dragon which hasn’t been heard of in hundreds of years. Lucky for him Brielle isn’t scared of him, but rather finds him fascinating, not to mention attractive. She plays a huge role in his acceptance of his new ability. I was also happy to see the old familiar faces of Aury’s 3 Fae guardians. They are always a hoot! I highly recommend this series if you enjoy fantasy romance!
