The inner dialogue & process of trying to speak it out loud, was perfectly written. I related so deeply to Alaska, in Looking for Alaska, but Aza from Turtles All the Way Down, has proven to connect with me too.

Great read. Great story. Great mental health visibility.

I really love the metaphorical writing. Some people might find the repetitiveness a little annoying, but I think it contributes to the meaning of the story and what the author is trying to communicate. I couldn't give it 5 stars only because I felt the ending was left kind of open and had some unanswered questions. Which doesn't really suit my personal preference. However I think the openness of the ending was intentional and, again, was meant to contribute to the meaning of the story. Over all I love this book for its ability to put feelings into words and for its purpose. Well done!

3.6 stars.

It was good. It was entertaining.
I enjoyed it but its not my favourite.
Its pretty short and not much really happens.
I guess it's more for an audience of people related to or interested in mental health.
It's a pretty mental health centered book.
Honestly, it's kind of a sad book.
Idk Aza was annoying, i think that is safe to say. But it wasn't her fault as much as it was her battling her illness and her thoughts. Which sounded so realistic, i feel like people who go throught it can relate to it.
And there wasn't much of a plot. It started with one but it didnt really end with one. i feel like it was mostly just based on relationships.
It was still easy to read though.
If you like contemporary, books on mental health (OCD, ANXIETY) and john green, you'd like this. Not sure if you'd love it.

In three words, I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life- it goes on. Robert Frost

“Actually, the problem is that I can’t lose my mind,” I said. It’s inescapable.

Absolutely outstanding work from John Green. I have loved all of his books, but this was a step above. Everything felt different about it, and it was wonderfully different. He poured a lot of himself into this book, and it shows. From watching him on Vlogbrothers, I know he has a very close relationship with the mental health issues discussed in the book. He writes it as the struggle actually is. There is no magic fix to it, but we have to just go on with it day-to-day. The gyre may tighten down on us some days, but it widens infinitely on others. I truly cannot say enough good things about this book.

Review on second reading: this book is extremely important. As someone who suffers with anxiety and “invasives”, I felt this was a good representation of some of the brain struggles that I face. I do not struggle to the level of Aza, but it’s nice to read about other people experiencing what I do. And for those readers who do not suffer anxiety or panic attacks, read this and learn more about the things your loved ones may be going through.

I didn’t enjoy the first half or so of this book, but once the halfway point came I found myself 100% invested. I wouldn’t say it’s John Green’s greatest writing, but most definitely not his worst.
