okay I thought this might be a bit cringe but I actually loved it? it felt really authentic and there were a lot of moments where I was like damn that's so me, and some other moments that gave me some perspective on things I frequently (over)think about. as a-spec fiction goes, this is a must read

DID NOT FINISH

This is really too robotic for me to sit theough for aroace rep. Add that another character is pretty rude in their online persona it's a pass.

the writing just feels so stiff and lifeless. also the characters seem so one dimensional and fake

the author's note said it wasn't that serious and this was written to have fun. I didn't have any fun reading it.

Review breakdown:

Writing: writing was fine

Characters: I didn't care for either of them and I didn't believe they would actually be friends

Plot: rival ig relationship accounts bond in real life because they are both aroace. the book even says "im not mad because of what they said, just that they didn't tell me it was them." which defeats the point of the rivalry, no? also, character A cared a whole lot about what B was saying the entire time, except when they find out who the person behind the account is? I dunno, everything to do with the ig portion of this book annoyed me. both characters' behavior was insufferable.

What would make this an extra star read for me: this felt more like an educational book about aromanticism and asexuality with the way it would describe what these things are rather than a story about a queer platonic friendship. there was plenty of setup for real drama around their different views/approaches to thei advice accounts that was just not explored.

Vibes: annoyed, frustrated, confused

This was not what I thought it was and it what it was wasn't good. I didn't like either of our main characters and felt they were very young for people supposedly in university. It feels like the author has gathered up things that are popular through the most recent years of being online and just thrown them all into a book. There was so much texting and I found that completely took me out of the story. The representation was fine? But overall I can't finish it. It was actually not good

If you liked Loveless and are only reading this on Alice Oseman's review then I wouldn't recommend this at all
