DID NOT FINISH: 90%

I had to leave the public library and told myself I'd return to finish the end of the book but it was at a point where everything was mostly resolved and I knew how it would end. Sweet, but ultimately predictable

dear wendy,

what a lovely contemporary platonic love story! ann zhao writes with modern wit and charm for queer gen z readers everywhere. this was a comforting read that captured me despite its low stakes and college setting that may otherwise have felt monotonous; zhao's characters heave with so much love that i'm tipping over ! sophie and jo live forever inside me now thank you very much.

sincerely, resident platonic soulmates enjoyer

it took me a little bit to get into this book, but i did really love it by the end. i loved the platonic ace rep and the messiness of the two characters. i think i would benefit from a reread where i understand who the characters are from the start and not like halfway through like it took me the first read through. however, once i got into the book (and after my library loan was available again), i flew through it and i was invested. it's not a five star read right off the bat because there was a lot of worldbuilding/character introductions that i couldnt keep track of, but that could easily just be my adhd tbh

cute aroace love story :]

i feel like it definitely got preachy at times but like it was still believable enough lol. i think the actual identities are handled pretty well, and i especially liked the focus on family dynamics and intersections with culture n immigration n stuff. interesting stuff and im guessing almost completely unexplored because aro/ace stories are really just now starting to be made

def give a shot if ur aroace or questioning. i read it all in basically one sitting lol

I have never felt as seen reading a book as a genderqueer asexual. Please I need everyone to read this. There needs to be more books like this. Being able to relate to characters the way I relate to Jo is why books like this matter.
