This is absolutely the best example I can think of when you say “don’t judge a book by its cover” because this is one of the cutest love stories i’ve read. like man maddie and logan were so cute sometimes???? this book did have its faults like being weird and unnecessary sometimes but hey!!! what’s a good regancy romance book without so many ups and downs

An enjoyable fast read

Madeline is a daughter of someone important and therefore she needs to go to the ton and get married but in order to avoid all that, she creates a guy. A Scot named Captain Logan MacKenzie. She met him in Brighton but is now fighting in the war.

The first ten chapters were good. I loved the way they bantered and the jokes they had and I especially loved the poem Logan read. That was the peak humuor right there.

Logan was supportive of his wife and protective too. He really was understanding of her struggles with anxiety and her career. He never belittled her for it or made ger quit.

The thing is that I got frustrated with the flaws of each character. Especially Logan. I hated that he wanted have the land. It was not his and I really did not like that he had to blackmail for it. His frustrations were taken on a woman who had no idea. Shouldn't he have gone to a gov to report this sort of thing? Was it that specific land parcel that she was gifted the one that belonged to his men.

I felt like that had a lot of conflict with his real personality. The loyal caring one we knew it to be. We knew that he would never do it. So it never really felt like there were high stakes. Imagine if they hated each other first but over time things got better. They got to know each other and trust but its felt as though he loved her and anytime he said he had no heart to give I felt frsutrated because that was bs.

I think this was our collective teenage dream come true... we write or read a fictional perfect man and years later he comes and saves us...

In Madeline's case, she didn't need saving, she didn't even want it, she wanted to get rid of him!! And Logan had no noble intentions of really saving her, he wanted her lands and her property. But they ended up saving each other in the end. And it's a beautiful story filled with love and sorrow and dreams.

Logan's story broke my heart. So much...

If a man who you haven't even met, who you "killed" after so many years because it was convenient for you, a man who got beaten because of your letters, but also a man who can recite your letters from memory who lets you go to fulfill your dreams and has stayed faithful to you after so many years and loves you and cares for everyone around him but himself isn't the man for you, I don't who is.

I don't know what I'm writing anymore, all I know is I loved this book.

cute, silly, and heartwarming. for a historical romance, this was a good palate cleanser if you’re looking for an EASY read. predictable? yes. outdated, incredulous and filled with folly at times? 100% yes. but verra charming….not to mention a quick read! i wasn’t expecting much but def had fun LOL.  🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🦞✨😂❤️
