Wowowowow. Nothing like this book. So well done. Wow. Recommend infinitely. I’m not big on re-reading but I think I’ll find myself reading this again many years down the line. What a courageous and sometimes terrifying life. So glad I came across this book.
Scientology has always fascinated me. I have only ever known of Leah Remini for being a scientologist. I listened to this on audiobook and I think it made the experience more enjoyable for me to hear the story told in her voice. This wasn't anything groundbreaking and spectacular in my opinion, but I still did enjoy the listening experience.
I zipped through this and really enjoyed it. Leah gives a 1st hand, almost lifelong account of her Scientology experiences. I appreciated her honesty and foul mouth very much!

Audio read by Leah. Quick, surface listen, but all I knew of scientology was founded by LRH and some wackadoo celebrities are fans, so some of the details were interesting and gossipy.
WOOF Scientology. That's the overarching feeling I've had since I finished this last night.
The gaslighting! The hypocrisy! The bad/off-policy behavior by church leaders! The whole mess with Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' wedding! The amount of tattling on each other the church members got up to! Heartbreakingly, the amount of money the church conned its members into taking on as debt in order to donate to the church coffers in order to remain in good standing with the organization. More heartbreakingly, the disconnection and distrust family members and friends were forced to feel for each other when one of their loved ones left the church.
(Also, since no one that was mentioned in the book ever saw Shelly with their own eyes after her disappearance [which was SO SHADY], you cannot convince me that David Miscavige didn't murder his wife.)
Fascinating and horrifying.

2024: I still really really enjoy this story. I love listening to Leah tell her own story. It definitely adds to it. The story is still as interesting as it is horrifying. This is definitely a book I read that I will still think about.
2015: I am a very curious person and I always have been since I was very young. I am so intrigued by Scientology and I've kind of been obsessed with learning about it and people that left. I really was interested in reading this book when I heard about it. I felt that It was very funny. I loved that Leah read her story. It made it seem so much more authentic. I couldn't stop listening to this. I thought the whole thing was very intriguing and insane at the same time. I love learning about things I don't understand and I loved learning about Leah's story. I highly highly recommend!
