Takes off like a rocket, right were Lady of Light and Shadows leaves off, and it never slows down ! Rain and Ellysetta, need to get her family settled and safe. They need to travel to the fading mists to try to save the Fay and Tarins, a war is coming.
The Eld is even more evil and depraved than previously written, they are many and they are powerful. They are on is killing innocent souls, darkening the future for all. New pathways have been found to reach the souls they want, unknown to the Fay or Tarins.
Galen the former dahl'reisen, is coming home after 1000 years. His welcome is not kind. Traditions, old and powerful keep the Fay from trusting him. He wants to teach all he has learned, to give them power, many only see evil.
Rain's rule is on the line, his people don't trust him. There is a mistrust of his mate and her mark. he has let the other hold the reins for the last 1000 years, he was not healthy then. Now he is back and boy what a show of power there is !
Ellysetta is finally excepting her powers and pushing her limits. Her need to save the kitlings overwhelms her with more deaths she can not stop. her heart is breaking and the answer can't be found. She loved by the Tarin, licked even, they believe in her. Fantastic scenes !
I loved this whole book, every word, it is weaved beautifully. What a talent Ms. Wilson has with words.

A little bit of a let down after the last book. Still good. The story was interesting but it was kind of sad.

A lot of things I really liked, from being in the Fading Lands, to the tairen, to Rain and Ellysetta's relationship, to the plot really kicking off. But I hate villain perspectives, and the pacing was uncomfortable. The first three quarters were rambling, much like the first two books, but then the last quarter has more happen than in the first three combined. I was thrown by how tense and stressful it became out of nowhere and I started skimming through parts. Haven't decided if I'll read the next one, because I'm concerned the things I didn't like are going to come to the forefront.

All of the books in this series were on my favorites list, but I have found that on a re-read, they don't quite stay there. The first two went down to four stars, which still means I really liked them, but for me, it just takes too long to get to the action with the first two. This third book will stay at five stars, but even this took a bit to get going, and I almost put it back on my shelf to read later. That shouldn't happen with a favorite. It does eventually get going, but I do still find myself skimming the love parts.

I think this is a great series, and still probably my favorite fantasy romance (heavy on the romance) series, even if the books don't stay on my favorites list.

This book was great. There's lot of action and the battle-scenes were heart wrenching initially, but they finished in an almost anti-climatic way. Still loved it. The political maneuvering was pretty set up, and I feel like it could have been pulled into the next book instead of being resolved so quickly, but still loved it. Plot twists about hidden fey? Loved it.

Let's just say I loved it :)
