It's a fun book. Not too many new ideas for the conceit, but as a love letter to her father, it works well. Whether that's a compelling read for the rest of us is up to you. Personally I enjoy the tropes.

emma babe you are suuuuuuch a good writer <3 I really appreciate that it seemed like she watched about time and then was like umm this movie should be more about the part/child relationship so just wrote that. never would have picked this up if I weren’t obsessed w her writing style but I’m very glad I did.

Loved it, this is my favorite of Emma Straub so far. Her other books that I’ve read bounce around between characters: I liked staying with Alice the whole time and was drawn into her story. An especially apt book to read after watching “Everything Everywhere All At Once”: the multiverse is everywhere these days! A poignant meditation on time, changing relationships/people, and the certain stabilities in one’s life. One of my favorite quotes was how it’s all about the little things: the moments in your life where you’re full present with what’s directly in front of you. “Transcendental meditation, but with hot dogs.”

I love a good time travel book but this was not it. I appreciate Alice’s desire to keep her father in her life but there was so much fluff added that I suspect this was really a novella or short story forced into a novel by a team of editors.
It’s more “what if” than sci-fi, and the focus on the father-daughter relationship got me in my feelings. Loved how it makes you think about what really matters.
I loved this book. It was a great time traveling family love story.
