I guess I like time travel/alternate realities now. Half of the book felt like "asides", though they all add up to be the point of the book: realizing that childhood extends farther than we thought, appreciating growing with your parents. Gorgeous story.

I picked the audiobook simply because I like the narrator. But I’m glad I read it. It’s a beautiful book.

I wanted to love this book more than I actually did, which is a shame. However, I found the premise very intriguing and wouldn’t shy away from reading more books by the same author. I just wish it was faster paced, some chapters felt very stretched out and the gaps between sentences to talk about related and unrelated things sometimes disrupted continuity. The ending was hopeful but a bit lackluster.
Hated everything about the time travel aspects, but I just kept reminding myself that the backbone of the story was the special bond between Alice and her dad and that relatability made up for it. One thing I REAAAALLLLLY HATED and I always hate about time travel stuff (minor spoiler ahead):
IF YOU ARE FORTY YEARS OLD AND YOU GO BACK IN TIME TO WHEN YOU’RE SIXTEEN AND YOU SLEEP WITH A SIXTEEN YEAR OLD WHILE YOU STILL HAVE YOUR FORTY YEAR OLD AWARENESS, THAT’S NOT OK! And saying “yeah I kinda felt forty but I also kinda felt 16!” doesn’t fix that ???

Rythme vraiment lent au début, j’ai presque DNF. Finalement, la partie deux a piqué ma curiosité et c’est bon, j’étais accrochée. Pas un incontournable du tout, mais ça fait réfléchir à la notion du temps et ce qu’on aurait fait différemment si on avait pu. 2.5 ⭐️
